I only used driver sweeper because driver cleaner isnt free unless I am missing something

I lowered my ram speed, installed the Xtreme-G drivers and worked fine for a while allowing me to finish WiC. Then it did it again today in Opposing Fronts. From what I've read it happens in both DX9 and DX10 games, so it's not Dx10 causing the problems as I thought at one time.

Ok, some more info on this god forsaken forgotten post by Nvidia.. :thumbdwn:

Ive tried less ram, safe mode installation, bcdediting, regediting, driver cleaner, driver sweeper and now for my latest stunt. Buying a new PSU!!!

How much money should i spend on this crap before nvidia knocks on my door replacing my cards???

Call em back, the whole dam 8800 series or all cards that causes this shyte error.

Do something dam it!!!!

:(

So, to sum up my post. More power to the cards didnt do squat either, to the so overlooked error thats plauging MANY players..

I too bought a new motherboard to replace my stiker extreme and lower ram speed did all the fixes and the driver cleanup and nothing!

After reading about Vista sp1, that should do the trick and if MS knows about it, they should release the fix for this particular problem and not make us wait for SP1

ATI is having the same issue so it is not all nvidia. But nvidia engineers still need to address it and come up with something.

Thankfully, I was able to eradicate it with a clean install. Never had it since.

For me, it seems to happen only in DX10 games so far, ie WiC and CoH: Opposing Fronts. I completed HL2 E2, Portal and currently gaming in Vista with CoH:OF but in Dx9 mode w/o problems. It's either Nvidia's or Ms's fault. It's a shame, because I bought Vista for DX10 and can't use it.

I had that problem when I ran UT3 demo. Then found out the demo has conflicts with avg free, uninstalled the antivirus and now everything's fine. But I'm still afraid to alt-tab out of UT3 :afro2:

@NKD, I registered on these forums just to respond to your comments. I am not denying that your video card situation is real but honestly you need to realize that just because your card behaves in a certain manner that doesn't mean ALL eVGA cards do. Not even all eVGA cards giving the same error as yours. The "display driver has stopped responding" and other similar errors are triggered by literally hundreds of different issues. These are generic errors that are caused by a wide range of problems, please don't take anecdotal evidence from your situation and then apply it to someone else's.

His card being bad is certainly a possibility but I wouldn't jump to that conclusion just because you have a bad card made by the same manufacturer. If that was the case then every piece of computer hardware in the world would be bad because every single line of components has defective units.

Now the reason I found this page to begin with was because I am getting a similar error the NVLDMKM error. It only happens in Company of Heroes and oddly enough it only happens if I leave the game idle for a little while. It never happens when I am playing but if I get a phone call and leave it paused I will usually come back to a blue screen. I am guessing it's some kind of a problem between the game and vista. I even tried downgrading my drivers which didn't help.

One last thing I would like to suggest to anyone having hardware problems, and this is something so simple that most people overlook it, is to make sure your BIOS is up to date. I once had a PC that would BSOD at random intervals, usually in games but sometimes for no reason and it drove me nuts. I had the video card replaced, I tried swapping RAM from a different PC, I switched out sound cards, I tried a million things. One day I finally got the idea to try updating the BIOS, and wouldn't you know it? It fixed it, the PC has worked perfectly ever since. It's funny how something so small and simple can cause so many problems in a PC.

Well good day to you all.

@NKD,The "display driver has stopped responding" and other similar errors are triggered by literally hundreds of different issues.

This is true. What used to be a system lock up now results in this. In one corner, it's really nice not to lose your system anymore. In the other it horribly complicates user level troubleshooting.

For whatever it's worth, WiC gives it to me sporadically. So is it an issue of the game, drivers or OS? My guess is all three.

Hi Everyone,

I tried everything to solve this problem from a software/driver standpoint and nothing worked. My last resort was to underclock my memory to 800MHZ down from the 1066MHZ stock speed which I read on one of these chat boards.

I am now going on several hours and no errors so far. This sacrifices a small amount of performance in order to maintain my sanity until a fix is available down the road from either Microsoft or Nvidia. Don't understand why there is a relationship here between RAM and Video card but it seems to have solved the problem at the moment.

I am running the following basics on a custom built machine:

Intel QX6850 processor
OCZ SLI PC-8500 Ram - 4G
Vista 64-bit
EVGA 768MB 8800 Ultra Superclocked Nvidia Video Card-using 163.75 drivers
EVGA 680 chipset SLI A1 Vers. MoBoard

Good Luck-Joe

running 4 Gb past 800 Mhz you will be asking for problems. Tighten up the timings, run 1T command rate. You will see that you have not lost any performance at all, in fact windows may be more responsive.

Been running mines at 800 Mhz and haven't had a single error pop up since I reinstalled Vista.

Got this error yesterday. Been running Vista HP 32 bit since January. TF2 kept looping the sound. When I would go back to the desktop I had the error. Was running 163.75. Went back to 163.69 we will see what happens. Never had this error before or the looping sound error either.

I used to have the issue a ton about seven months ago and I gave up. I recently reinstalled Vista and have been using it for about a month and the error hasn't popped up.

Things that I have done differently, I am more careful with that drivers I install, I do not have dreamscene installed or downloaded at all and I have downloaded all the updates available from microsoft.

Seriously, It must be user error. Everyone who has this issue must be doing something wrong. Either it's unstable hardware, or not all patches applied and latest DX, there is NO way that some people will never have this problem, and some do. That only leaves one option open, and thats people doing something wrong themselves.

I haven't had it once.

Yeah man. It's user error... Sure... Because all systems are identical. And if a game doesn't crash for you, then it mustn't crash for anyone else... :headexplode:

well I finally found out the reason mine was crashing. I installed vista 64 and still go the error. so I installed the MSI utility and it showed my card was overheating. This whole time it was my OC MSI 8800 Ultra overheating. I have a RMA and still waiting.

From my understanding this error this due to overclock, or over-heat
My 8800GT has this error serveral times in all types of games when its overclocked, and it never happen @ default

I've seen loads of systems identical to mine, so yea. What else can it be? Hm?
