View Full Version : Nvlddmkm stopped responding is getting VERY OLD...
I have 4x OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 Reaper HPC 2GB memory bricks which total 8GB. When I have all four memory slots on my mobo occupied Windows Vista starts to show weird behaviour. I couldn't install updates with Windows Update (many failed), I couldn't install Creative Suite 3, and ofcourse the infamous nvlddmkm stopped responding error.
Then I just took out two of the four bricks and remained with 4GB of memory.
Since then, no problem at all. Even when I switch the memory modules with those I took out there's still no problem.
There are alot of problems concerning Vista with all four memory banks occupied, especially with 2GB bricks. I've also read of somebody who had the same problems with 2x 2GB bricks and had to go back to 2GB total to make it work.
Hope this helps anyone out.

Not yet. But the only DX10 game I play right now is FSX and I haven't had that error in FSX for a long time.

Well I was able to do two 1 hour flights without this error.... maybe the driver set im using has helped clear this up?.... *crosses fingers*. I suppose I just need to fire up WiC in DX10 mode and see what happens... then I will know for sure...
I am getting this weird error with 9800gx2 under Crysis,AC, company of heroes.
All my drivers and games are up to date and this is going over my head now.
I have no idea what to do.Please help.

I've just reinstalled Vista32 and get this error with GRID using latest drivers. I'm really trying to use Vista and stuff like this makes it hard to accept.
I don't really feel like reading thru 53 pages for solutions, would take less time to reinstall XP.

Don't read through the thread, it can't be fixed anyway. You either get it or not, less with some drivers, more with others, always depending on the system...
I've never got it before and suddenly started getting this error in Vista x64 now.
Seems to be heat related, as its extremely hot outside now, and therefore in my room too (got no a/c as heat normally isn't an issue here).
Turned up my fans slightly. It can have been some isolated happening too, I dunno.

I have only ever gotten this error in 2 games.... WiC (in DX 10 mode) and FSX (in DX 10 mode). I have been playing FSX for about 1 hour spurts the last week or so with no issue... I hope it has cleared up with the drivers I am using. I have not played WiC for some time... but I might fire it back up again to see if the issue still exists. If not... I will stick to the drivers I have till no end... lol. Oddly enough... I NEVER got the error in Vista 32bit... only 64bit. Which leads me to believe part of it HAS to be driver related.

Well, getting this again in pretty much every game with my new 9800GTX+. Figure it's got to be the card though becasue it quit doing it if I set my clocks as low as they would go. However I did take out 2 of my 4 memory modules after reading this thread and peeps saying that can cause it, and now instead of giving that error it's just hard locking. Figure it's gotta be the card so I'm RMA'ing in, also bought a GTX 260 and hopefully that one will be aight. However I went ahead and ordered 2x2GB memory modules so I can get rid of these 4x1GB since they seemed to have an effect when I took out 2 of em.

I started having this problem after installing a PCI 6200 along side my PCI-E 8800 in order to have three monitors. I have to turn off aero and dreamscene. Still yet if the my third monitor has a lot of on-screen motion, i get this error until it cools down.
The reason I beleive this is happening has to do with the driver using the same settings for each card even tho they should use different clock speeds. This is probably a easy fix but.. ya know nvidia.
I should have gone SLI, but then I couldn't have 32GB RAM and two CPUs. +D

I get this Stupid driver fail too, with both CoD4, N4S-PS, Fear and COH, hell every game I play. DX9 - DX10. Doesn't fail with 169.44 driver but performance blows chunks.
Problem with performance seems to correspond with SP1 for vista and the 17* drivers
anyone else also notice a performance hit.
Btw my heart is fine changed cases already
I got a specatular score of P4887 in 3dMarks Vantage in performance mode
Sli works cause i tested that in coh and my score in that test was cut in half without
any ideas on the performance

I have a feeling its a voltage issue
Increase your voltage to your ram and anything else you can.
I can also reproduce a blue screen nearly every time, by watching HDtv and playing a 3d game in windowed mode at the same time. Heh try getting support for that issue.

It is pretty apparant that this is error is identifying the faulty chips. It's because the GPU is getting hot - throttling down - and then can't handle whatever is going on, like a game, or whatever.
