Just started having this problem yesterday, takes a complete restart to get 3d working again. Dual monitor flashes black, sometimes get BSOD about this as well. Have no dreamscene running.. old school win2000 look no areo.
Well now we know it's not just an areo problem with it's 3D interface. Man, I can't wait till next week when the rumored new drivers come out. Hopefully they fix that.

Yeah, I hope they fix this not responding stuff
I saw two of them already:
- Nvlddmkm stopped responding
- the driver stopped responding

Did a complete removal of nvidia drivers and nforce packages using drivercleaner. Re-installed drivers again.. newest beta release btw.. and still am havinging nvlddmkm problems. Changed to single monitor setup, problems still abound in Supreme Commander, WOW, DODS and CSS. That's about all I play so there is where my problems are.

Whoa dude. This is what we all accepted when we updated to Windows Vista so soon. We all knew there was going to be some issues with it. I certainly knew and i am trying to work with Microsoft and nVidia to fix the problem. Just take it easy and enjoy the fact that XP was like this too when it first came out. eventually we will have a nice, stable, tame OS that works as well if not better than XP does. Also remembver that Crysis will work perfectly :D

guess what, the operating system doesn't work. It is so unstable that I can't use it. Removing it as I am posting this. Five years to develop this crap and it doesn't work, what a joke:lol:

Well I am getting ready for a dual boot when I get home if a full whipe and reinstall of Vista doesn't work.

I've formatted and re-installed five times in the last week, it doesn't work. Don't waste your time. Wait till at least SP2.

Well I'm gonna give it a try. If not it's a dual boot way for me after I back up ISOs, pictures and so forth. I have 2 289 GB HDDs and I'll run XP off my E:\
I'd like to know what's different about what I'm doing and what you guys are doing. I've had next to zero problems with this for quite a while.
Curious, are you guys using the nforce mobo drivers or leaving vistas running it? There has to be a reason why some are having hell with this and some aren't at all.

Well my BIOS doesn't have any reference to Vista and I dont know if i have Vista compatible mobo drivers. I'm currently looking.

tried with the mobo drivers that vista comes with and the ones nVIDIA released in feb, both do the same crap.

yea, there's nothing on asus about my p5ld2-deluxe. i'll post on their message board when i get home.
Well, it took forever, but playing Prey today for about 2 hours, had the worst crash. I don't know if it was the same error as my rig locked hard - static out of the speakers and all lol.
thought my rig was fried, Just glad I could still boot back to XP, think I'll wait for the next driver release before trying again.

is ntune the only utility I can use to see my gpu temps? I want to be sure that this isn't being caused by my card overheating. If it is then I guess MSI will have to send me a new card:lol:

hey thanks man, I downloaded atitool and it works great. I didn't know if it still worked with the current forceware drivers.
It reported that my card idles at 58C... that doesn't seem too high, is that a normal temp?
I've read about gpus idling at +70C and those were causing this error. I have no clue what to do... I am going to contact MSI on monday and see what they think.

Same problem here. I get This driver stopped responding like every second startup. And Nvlddmkm stopped responding during a couple of hours of gameplay.

I'd be happy. Mine idles at 78°c at the moment. Damn summer.

you should get your boards RMA'd if they are idling that high.
