I'll have to give up on using dreams and most any 3d until this gets fixed or I go with ATI. It's just too frustrating. . .

Damn, I thought it was just my rig, lol.

I had this problem going from 100.65 to 101.41. I think I'm rolling back to .65, but then BFV doesn't work (no crosshairs!)...Is there an estimated release date for the WHQL version of 101.41?

~Ibrahim~

P.S. What is different about the 100.95 drivers?

I'm using 101.41 drivers, been using Vista since February and the only thing I've got this Nvlddmkm problem on was when using PowerDVD or sometimes Windows Media Player 11. This weekend I updated my K-Lite Codec Pack to the newest version and this time I chose to install Windows Media Player Classic just because I've passed it up the previous 100 times or whatever I've installed it and decided to give it a chance. The program freaking ownz, and I have no need for PowerDVD anymore as Media Player Classic is perfect and it plays all my video formats I've tried (mpg, avi, wmv, m2p, m2v, vob, ts, etc). I've never got this BSOD during a game, if I did I'd be going nuts! So for me, Media Player Classic has rid me of seeing this dreadful error again.

I really think this is a ram related problem. One, because if I don't have a completely stable ram OC, I get the error, and two - I started getting it even when not overclocked and it turns out I have one bad stick of ram.

Seeing how Vista wants to cache as much as possible to available ram, it seems reasonable that a slightly unstable ram OC should cause weirdness. Thing is, with the bad stick, even XP was giving me black screens that lasted for a couple of seconds, but of course no message saying my driver stopped working, Like Vista did.

o well .. i tried switching to vista like 5 times .. each time with that stupid display driver error .. my ram speed is 800 .. dropped it down from 1100 ..
still the same errors .. for manybe the first 2 hours im good in vista .. then while just sitting on the desktop or chatting .. every 2 min it does it ..
no dreamscene either .. i bascially give up .. back in xp

Curious, can you see if you are able to save an MP3 file on your PC?

I don't think its a RAM issue, I get the error also but I just finished running Memcheck for several hours and no errors were found.

It's not ram or any other hardware. I'm starting to think it is more of a M$ problem than a Nvidia one though. People are just getting desparate for answers.

I found an easy way to reproduce this error with the 101.41 drivers. Run the nVidia Smoke demo and browse the web. I can get the error to happen within a minute or two. The 100.65 drivers run everything all day long without error.

What do you mean by this? I downloaded an MP3 album the other day, and played it back, and works fine...?

OK, but can you open the MP3 file and then save it somewhere else on your hard drive using Media Player 11? If you can, great. (I can't for some reason)

Why would anyone want/need to do that, I'm confused?

I have this error too.

I'm using 101.41 beta because TDU stutters much less and plays more smoothly with these drivers BUT it occasionally crashes.

It crashes....recovers...crashes...recovers.

Most of the time I'm not thrown back to desktop...it recovers. Some days I play hours with no problems. Some days it won't quit annoying me.

Never has a graphics card (8800 GTS) given me so much trouble.

mine: crashes...recovers...crashes...recovers..crashes.. . recovers..crashes...recovers..BLUE SCREEN

NVIDIA statement on TDR Error Messages

Some Windows Vista users have reported that their systems are displaying an error message that says: "Display driver stopped responding, but has successfully recovered." This is called a Timeout Detection and Recovery error message.

Timeout Detection and Recovery (TDR) is a new feature of Windows Vista that attempts to detect problematic situations and recover to a functional desktop without forcing a reboot. Hangs can occur when the GPU is processing intensive graphics operations, typically during gameplay, and nothing is being updated on the monitor. To the user it appears that the system is frozen with no resolution to the problem; in previous operating systems users generally had to wait a few seconds and then reboot.

The TDR error message "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" lets the user know that the NVIDIA display driver (specifically the "nvlddmkm.sys" file) has been re-initialized and the GPU is reset without requiring a reboot. The only visible artifact from the recovery is a screen flicker, the result of a screen redraw. Note that some older Microsoft DirectX applications may render to a black screen at the end of the TDR, requiring the user to restart these applications.

TDRs are not specific to a single driver problem, and can occur for a variety of reasons. When they occur, diagnostic information is collected in the form of a debug report that is sent to Microsoft through the Online Crash Analysis (OCA) mechanism if the user opts to provide feedback.

NVIDIA encourages users to submit their own bug reports via the NVIDIA Vista Quality Assurance Program, using the keyword "TDR" in the description of the problem. The NVIDIA bug report link is here:
https://surveys.nvidia.com/index.jsp?pi=7498eac864dc1950c8f09e040b4a437a

We understand that many users have expressed frustration with this issue, and we apologize for the inconvenience. Since the NVIDIA v101.41 beta driver release, NVIDIA has been fixing many TDR issues reported by users. Our software team is currently preparing a new driver which will dramatically reduce the number of TDR errors that users have reported on the forums. Thank you for your patience.

More information on TDRs can be found here:

Ahhh....so that's what my driver crash is called....TDR

Anyway, it's a bit of relief. I was afraid my GPU was overheating or something.
