I hope that they aren't turning anything off to get these results.
Also no mention of the 9800's
RADEON™9700
Anisotropic Filtering and OpenGL performance on the RADEON™ 9700 series of cards is up substantially across several applications. These performance improvements include:
A performance improvement of up to 35% at high resolutions is noticed in ChameleonMark
A performance improvement between 2 and 7% is noticed in 3Dmark
A performance improvement between 6 and 24% is noticed in Comanche4
A performance improvement of 10% is noticed in Max Payne
A performance improvement between 20 and 40% is noticed in UT2003 Flyby
A performance improvement between 30 and 40% is noticed in IL-2 Sturmovik when Aniso or Aniso and Anti-Aliasign is enabled at the display resolution of 1600x1200
A performance improvement between 17 and 24% is noticed in Jedi Knight II when Aniso or Aniso and Anti-Aliasign is enabled at the display resolution of 1600x1200

Disregard My last, it seems as though the 3.2 release link goes to the 3.1 release notes, and just probably haven't been updated yet.

As with most CATALYST™ releases, the performance has increased in many various situations. Here are some examples observed in CATALYST™ version 3.2.
CATALYST™ 3.2 corrects a problem with 2D applications running in the background that can cause a momentary reduction in framerate (i.e."stuttering") in fullscreen Direct3D and OpenGL games. Specific instances of "stuttering" have also been addressed (e.g. Rallisport Challenge when the sun enters or exits the scene).
Dungeon Siege framerates are improved as much as 24% across multiple products, especially when running at higher resolutions.
Framebuffer read-back performance has improved dramatically (500% or more) in CATALYST™3.2. This feature allows an application to retrieve a fully rendered frame from the graphics adapter and manipulate it or store it in the system RAM or on the hard disk.
Vertex Shader performance has improved dramatically (as much as 100% in some situations) for our DX8.1-class products such as RADEON™ 8500, 9000 and 9100. This brings significant gains to Vertex Shader intensive scenes such as the Battle of Proxycon and the Troll's Lair (both up 15-25% on RADEON™ 9000 PRO).
Still about two weeks to go until the drivers are released, AFAIK.

Didn't you read the post???? I have just downloaded them
Simon :)
Games do seem to run a little faster and smoother too...
LOL - didn't even notice. They were due to be released ~20-25th March. I guess the uproar about the partial release didn't fall on deaf ears after all.
Cheers,
MuFu.

I thought 2D wasn't affected by drivers, that it's all done via the RAMDAC.
Either way, I'll have to snag these at some point...or perhaps I'll just wait for the Catalyst 3.3's which are supposed to allow the 9700 series to take advantage of the 9800 codepath.

I'm using the 3.0 Catalyst, and they work so well that I see no need to update to these. I hear there is little (if any) performance increase, so I guess there's no reason to swap unless you're having problems.
The 3.2 drivers finally address and fix the route cause of the stuttering problem which was that 2D desktop stuff was still being done by the drivers even when a fullscreen 3D app was open. So even if the games you play don't have a stuttering problem, these drivers are still more efficient and probably yield a little increase in performance.
The 3.3 Cats are supposed to provide a good performance increase and contain some optimizations for the 9800 that they discovered also work quite well on the 9700. Those won't be out for another month or so.

Rallisport Challenge runs much much better, Forgotten Battles is smoother and better looking. Mafia's flashing textures is fixed.
More games yet to try.

I got a small speed increase in everything I've tested so far: 3DMark03 (+200 pts) games, etc. Cool.
