I am interested in getting started and learning about Linux and installing it on my PC later on. What good sites/books could help me out? Thanks guys.

Without starting a Distribution War I'd suggest you start with Ubuntu because it works quite well out of the box and has an excellent package management system. Additionally, the user-base is strong and the distribution is well-documented.

They were having a problem with freezes after install, did they ever iron that out? If so I agree, it's a sweet distro.

I never heard about that, what was the issue? Hard kernel panic? I'm running Feisty Fawn now and the wife's on Edgy. The server is running Dapper and I've had two kernel panics with Feisty but that's par for the course for a developement/beta release and it was fixed in about 2 days...that was about 3 weeks ago I believe.

The desktop would gradually start to corrupt after a few minutes, then I would get a total system freeze. I can't for the life of me remember what what suggested to disable, from the ubuntu forums...dang, getting old. :p

Just download Ubuntu 6.10 and try it on your PC "Live". Just boot from the CD (boot.iso) and it will let you play with it on your PC w/o making any changes to your hard drive.

Beware that live cd's load everything into RAM so for it to be a pleasant experience, you should have 2GB + of RAM.
