I rarely connect my gaming PC to the net so that I can keep background services and memory usage to absolute min. I never have more than 23 processes when gaming and low memory usage. i even disable windows firewall, get rid of msn , msn messenger etc.

I now want to try out world of warcraft, but don't want to install Mcafee (which is on my internet PC) so I want just an anti-virus ( already have spybot, and will iese windows firewall (I know the limitations, I will never be using suspect programs on this PC so it won't be a problem) . I want an anti-viruse that is really small and never bothers me, ideally I don't even want a system tray icon, and I want to be able to quickly disable it when i finish play WOW and disconnect from the net. I don't want a program complaining about internet access. Like I said already it also has to have a really small foot print , which I realize is the opposite to what all the security programs are doing now, they are becoming more and more large.

Lastly it has to be completely free. I realize this is going to be difficult which is why I ask for help. remember I am not new to PC's I ahve used and tested many anti-virus already all of which failed to meet my needs. I want anti-virus like how spybot or spyware blaster is.

Also do I really even need an anti-virus for wow? I am really careful and never make on of the mistakes and do spring cleaning every week (kill all temp files and clean registry). I know my registry and temp program folder like the back of my hand and will automatically realize anything strange, so I wonder do I really need one?

Thank you for reading.

By the way is there anyway to play wow without constantly paying every month? I could care less about the scoial aspects of teh game , I just need a new rpg to play since I have completed or gotten bored of constant play of Gothic 3, Oblivion, Fable, Bloodlines, Deus Ex, Neverwinter Nights 2, Zelda , Titan quest etc. I wanted another rpg to play so on my first go of WOW ( I am using a 10 day trial) I just completed quests and pretty much ignored the social aspects ( I find it sos strange, to see real people in my game , yeah this is my first mmo).

Tell us what you've tried.

I find AVG to be really small and the scan process can also be set to minimize processor utilization. And it's free. http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/

I would agree AVG would be the one you are looking for. I use AVast myself and you could look at that too, but it has a larger footprint.

AVG FTW for Windoze machines! :D

They also have an "ok" anti-spyware program but it's not entirely free.

Thanks guys I have chosen AVG it seems like it won't be a resource hog and hopefully it won't claim that my PC will melt down if I try to disable it.
