After some months, and seeing the original thread here (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=68037 ), how many of you actually switched to conroe from amd? If so, when? Did you see an immediate impact?

I think I'd be interesting to see the impact on the enthusiast market (but maybe still love their companies... enough to not warrent the switch).

I switched at Christmas, it will be a worthy upgrade soon.

No, but I hope to sometime soon (for at least one of my systems).

Well considering I switched to a 3GHZ overclocked Core2 Duo to from an AthlonXP 2100+, I saw a big fricken difference.

I got my rig (stable) at 3Ghz.....I'm thinking about pushing it even more later on....

I'm running 3GHz stable with no voltage adjustments at all. I think I can get it up to 3.6GHz (maybe even 3.8) but I'll have to crank up the voltage which means my chip will run real hot. I'm not going to attempt it until I have my watercooling system installed.

BTW here is a pic of my stability testing.

What kind of w/c are you planning on getting?

aquacomputer.

It's sort of a cutsom built mod that I put into my Lian-Li V1000 case. I'll take pics of it once I have the setup together.

My first Intel. I am happy with it.

I've been always an Intel user, for 15+ years. 2 years ago I replaced Pentium 4 HT @ 3.2GHz by Athlon Venice 3200+, and it was a horrible experience. Very low performance in video and audio, and extreme instability (nForce4 Asus board). Later I purchased X2 4400+ and Asus A8N32-SLI, which was finally quite stable, but the performance (except games) still was not there. Plus many troubles with dualcore compatibilitym which Intel Pentium D did not have.

Anyway, after 1 1/2 years with AMD, having nothing more than troubles, I am back, forever, at Intel camp.

I think AMD was, is, and will be a total outsider, and its products shall be ignored. Will never purchase AMD again. I understand there are many happy AMD users, especially those who never had an Intel system, but I am not one of them..

I got an HP computer last fall when I didn't know what I was doing. AMD 4200+ with an OEM mobo.

Found a great deal on an FX-60 so I went that route for a few months, but everything was hampered by the mobo (no OC). Almost bought a new 939 board, but then decided to sell FX-60 and part out the rest of the HP POS.

Built my own last week (see sig), and it screams past anything my FX-60 was doing. OCed my E6600 to 3.4 stable-- Medieval 2 battles are very impressive to watch now. Still looking to upgrade to a RAID 0, and considering using the stepup program to future proof my GPU when the 8900GTX comes out.

I'm very impressed with the power of Conroe.

AMD = owned:

Switched from an AMD X2 4400+ OC'd to 2.7gHz to my Conroe OC'd @ 3.6 and I've noticed ~ 30-40% increase in performance.

SuperPi times on my X2 4400+ @ 2.7gHz were 31s. SuperPi on the Conroe is 14.3s:

Yep, moved from a X2 4400+ @ 2.84 GHz to an E6600 @ 3.70 GHz. All the C2Ds I have tried do 3.20 GHz with no problem, and with no vcore increase. Even if this chip could only do the same clock as my old 4400+ it will still destroy it in every way. I don't am happy I made the move.

Until AMD releases a chip that out performs the C2D clock for clock and can do 3.20-3.70 on air I will be staying with what I have. BTW it will need to cost no more than 320usd as well.

I did the same.

Btw, AMD X2 4400+ was $800 when I purchased it, E6600 was $400, while its performance is about 2x better, and mobos are absolutely stable (unlike for AMD).. That speaks a lot about overpriced AMD..

I switched literally right after the release on July 27th i believe.

They were all sold ouf of e6600's everywhere, so i setteled for a 6400. Sold that to my friend and bumped it up to a e6600 in November when I got my G80 and 680i. :)

my rig is stable enough and fast enough for what i do and that's surf the web download music and game. Next year I will see whats what and may switch to intel I have no love for either company. Heck i could be running a intel ATI rig who knows. I purchase whatever is the best at the time.

AMD 3500+ to an E4300. So far I'm seeing a big difference, although I'm sure the video card upgrade is mostly to blame.

There seems to be a bigger demand for used AMD socket 939 duo cores than new conroes.

It's really REALLY hard to resist the price drops on those X2's.

That and the upgrade path is much easier for a lot of people. If you already have DDR laying around, and maybe even a s939 mobo, it is an obvious choice.

I never did switch, and I probably won't even think about switching until next year. Everything I've bought has been AMD, and I've gotten some pretty nice hardware. 2500+ barton, 3800+ x2, and my FX-60, all of which have been really good, and I'm still using all 3 boxes to this day. If next year Intel is still kicking in AMD, I'll go Quad 45nm.

I would like to know how much I can overclock the Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor X6800 2.93GHz on water.

^ Well, the only way to know is to test it yourself. Every chip is different.

Nope, not yet...I'm waiting for a few more months before I upgrade...being a student and all the money isn't exactly overflowing out of my pockets :D I still need a Geforce 8 series card too....

I don't think it's worth the money for me to upgrade, but I am building My sister a conroe right now (my choice of processor). The first intel I've built since My mothers old (retired) celeron 400. since then it's been AMD all the way. I'll probably do another video upgrade before a platform change. I'm not even wasting My money on Vista yet.
