Since MS changed the way Vista does Vsync, I was told to turn it on in the game itself. I run a LCD, so I'm always at 60hz. When I play WoW or Lotro beta, I get tearing near the top of the screen. If I turn off Vsync, the whole screen tears really bad.

Is there anything else I can change? I don't seem to be getting tearing on the desktop with dragging aero windows.

EXACTLY the same problem here.

Exactly the same problem here in World of Warcraft (apart from half the framerate I get in XP...).

It's really noticeable when you're on a Gryphon/Bat too, it tears horribly.

Yep, I get this as well. Hope this isn't a new feature for the future. :thumbdwn:

I was playing Quake 4 last night and I was looking hard at the top of the screen, it doesn't appear to do it in OpenGL, but that's the only OpenGL game I have installed. I have Doom 3 and Quake 3 Arena, but not sure if that would help me determine. I was looking up and panning very fast left and right with the mouse, I didn't see any tearing.

This might be a DirectX issue only. :headexplode:

submit a bug report to nvidia, i would guess. it may be an issue that blizzard will have to patch. but i guess winxp is safest for now. i hope this helps.

It's a Microsoft issue. So unless MS releases a patch, you're SOL.

go to UserPreferences.ini which is under documents\the lord of the rings etc. and change line
AllowFakeFullScreen=True to AllowFakeFullScreen=False.

Also i got Vsync set to application preference and WOW then worked just fine for me, no tearing under Vista.

I have done both of these steps, I still get tearing. Basically, any DirectX game will have some tearing even if it's turned on in the game itself.

Maybe, but with ATI cards, it works perfectly through the drivers also.... why with nvidia it's a Microsoft issue?

Well I'm just saying that NVIDIA said that it was Microsoft who changed V-Sync. So games that don't have V-Sync in game, can't do V-Sync anymore.

UPDATE:

I have updated to a 8800GTX and I don't have tearing anymore, as long as it's turned on in the game. The tearing I had in Vanguard, Lotro and WoW are gone, using the same drivers as I did with the 7800GTX.

If so, then that is incredibly, outlandishly, STUPID.

I really, really doubt that's true. I sincerely hope it isn't.

No it doesn't. Same deal with both ATi and nVidia

It is true, microsoft thinks its the best thing:rolleyes: Just like they believe triple buffering should be controlled by the application.

Yep, its the same with ATI and Nvidia.

Vsync and DirectX

I have some good news.

We are working to enable forcing Vsync for DirectX applications under Vista. It will be in our Control Panel. We intend to have it available in the next Beta driver we release on NVIDIA.com, ETA in about 1 more week or so.
