Well folks, I finally pulled the order trigger and purchased myself an Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 Conroe 2.93GHz. I've heard everything great about this processor here on the NVNEWS forums and on Tom's Hardware. I've been stuck with using Intel's Pentium D Extreme Edition 965 3.73GHz Dual Core for sometime. I can't wait to see the performance increase vs. the Pentium D series.

Congrats! I think you were long overdue for the upgrade with all of the other nice hardware that you have. The new X6800 is going make your old proc seem really slow.

Nice upgrade but why didn't you buy the Quad Core QX6700? Are the quads still more expensive in the US?

They cost more here. I also was reading that games run faster on the X6800 vs. the QX6700 any truth to this?

They will run the same speed for me or very close to it when I clock my QX6700 to 3.5GHz.:D

Thank you for the comments. I can't wait to install the new hardware. I had my doubts about the Core 2 at first but not now. That also accounts for the 8800 GTX. It just crushes the prior 7950 GX2 Quad SLI setup I once had. I sold both cards on ebay and covered the cost on the upgrade to the one EVGA 8800 GTX KO Edition. I'll step that up with EVGA once the 8900 GTX comes out. So all in all to complete my massive costly new computer upgrade. I want to go with the 8900 GTX SLI and a fancy 1000 Watt power supply. Sort of. They OC slightly due to less heat constraints. At stock, they do ever-so-slightly better than the QX6700 in single-threaded processes.

Honestly though IMO, unless you have stock cooling or got a fantastic price, you should have got a QX6700.

Regardless the X6800 is a fabulous CPU. :) Enjoy!

I figured the X6800 would be faster.

Great CPU but I would also have went with the Q6700 since it has 4 cpus and can easily be overclock to what the 6800 is and latter on when quad cores come in to there own you would have had one .,But this is just my opinion.Enjoy your new CPU.
