if stores don't know the date, they'll put any date there just to get your money...I NEVER go by a store date unless the game has gone gold already...

Haha, that's funny, take the oldest screen shot ever released of this game, slap a few logos in the corner and call it the game's box cover =]

I can't think of anything funny to say about this; all the jokes about Duke Nukem delays ran out about 3 years ago. :p

Mafia also was delayed awhile, I remeber I was almost going to order it when its release date was meant to be 03/01 lucky I didnt pre order that one ;) I ended up getting Undying, and that was a good choice. The thing about DNF was that quicktime video that we all dl towards the end of 2001, it led us to believe that DNF was coming in 2001 or early 2002 :p

from 2/27/03 (http://money.cnn.com/2003/02/27/commentary/game_over/column_gaming/index.htm)

Write-downs and impairment costs totaled $14.5 million, with a significant portion of that blamed on the anticipated, but long-delayed action game "Duke Nukem Forever". First announced in 1998, the game still has no targeted release date. And company officials said there's no hope of it shipping within the next three months.

"While the team is vigorously working on the game, the risks associated with the extended development time caused us to re-evaluate the carrying value of this property," said Take Two CEO Jeffrey Lapin in a conference call with analysts.

well i think its still based on the unreal 1 engine... i haven heard if they switched AGAIN. lol they went from quake3, to unreal 1... now the unreal engine is looking outdated... they need to realease it soon before it looks any more outdated.

but... anyone remember half life? another game that was delayed, after delayed, after delayed... maybe we can get another classic once it ships... if it ever does:p

They're not using the Unreal 1 engine, they're just using the Unreal engine...

They bought the rights to use the Unreal engine and all the updates that come with it, even the latest build that came out after UT2003...

From what they last said (when the video came out), they were using a build a bit before UT2003 and heavily modified it for maximum interactivity of the environment.

Take that however you will...

There is no way in hell this game is going to be worth it after this length of time.

I kinda thought the same thing, though I thought of it more like the longer it takes a game to come out, the better I expect it to be. Though even if the game came out and was the best game in the world, it would still be a disapointment :)

They're too busy watching porn, and jackin' eachother to work on DNF.

I remember this saying "WID"....this game will never see the light of day beyond the porno its makers are watching on a daily basis. :retard:

I doubt it'll ever really make it to the store shelves. But even if it does, most of the games with the longest delays tended to be the worst of the crop, for some strange reason. (You'd think that spending so much time on it would result in it being extremely well made, but I guess that by the time they're close to being finished, they see that their tech is horribly out of date because they were working on an engine that has since been replaced 3 dozen times, and in a rush buy licenses to newer tech, do a hack job trying to convert things to use the new engine, then try to get the product on the shelves before the beginning of the 22nd century, only to end up with something worse than it was on an outdated engine..)

Does anyone else think that they could at least make a few bucks to defray the cost by releasing a "Best of the DNF Alpha Builds!" CD so we could at LEAST get a taste/know they're really working on it?

Hell, there should be 2 or 3 near complete builds in different engines by now.....it'd sort of be neat to see 'em and compare 'em. :)

Hehe. While we're at it, maybe we could lobby id to release all those pre-alpha / alpha / beta DOOMIII builds, so people could stop trying to sneak around warez sites and filesharing utilities, and we could openly post our scores. :D

Hope DNF don't go the same way Unreal II did, too much expectation...but who cares, I WANT TEAM FORTRESS II.. I loved TFC, was my favorite mod .... I don't even remember where I saw the teaser for TF II, I think its on the back of the jewel case... I liked TFC so much I bought Half Life twice, so I could get the version that had the mod build in.. Lets hope TF II don't go the way of "Tribes 2"..

People make these games what they are, even if the game isn't all its cracked up to be. If it has certain elements, the users community will keep the ball rolling forever. Diablo 2 is a prime example.. Heck, I didn't play it until it was already outdated, but a friend with a ancient system plays it daily and put me onto it. The battlechest is STILL $50. The game requires a Pentium 233 and runs BETTER on Glide (wuts that, J/K :-)).. Blizzard has been working on the 1.10 patch for over a year now LOL.. I hope they fix the net code.

Ya, we've been waiting for TF2 forever now...then along comes BF1942 and scoops them , and it doesn't have to look like a next-gen title! GREAT GAME!

Heh, battlefield 1942 is sucking all my time. That desert combat mode rules as well, if only i could figure out that chopper.

When I first downloaded the BF1942 demo I was 'shocked and awe'd' (sorry Iraq)... The demo map was pretty fun, I wasn't that great at it tho.. a month or so later my GF bought me the game and I just could never master it.

Heres what happens...

I spawn....I run for 5 minutes (well, seems that way) to find an enemy to even engage.. a few things happen, someone I don't see kills me via a plane, or a sniper, etc... a jeep runs me over that I didnt see until last minute, or I 'duel' someone and either win or lose.. a few seconds later somthing I didn't see kills me.

Typical FPS for me.. I run around and keep almost a 2:1 kill ratio via team deathmatch, CTF, etc.

I guess I need schooling on the art of teamplay, I have no problem 'following' and providing cover for someone.. I do this in MOH all the time. Taking point 100% of the time is boring.

I've never tried to join any 'clans'.. really have no clue what thats all about.. I belonged to a guild of nearly 70 people in Everquest and raided with them almost daily.. I guess its like that, but you play FPS games.
