Sony DRU-500AX. My first writer was an HP 8110i internal, which served me well for years. HP makes great optical drives, IMHO. Hopefully the Sony will last a couple years or more.

I have an old LG 8x4x32x which is beginning to fail. It takes it a very long time to read rewritable media.
Teac CDW-54E (32x4x4)...I don't do a whole lot of RW on it, though, mostly just W... :)
Cheers,

My brother just bought a Lite On 52x24x52 and sold me his Lite On 32x12x40 for a measly $30.
I dont burn that often, so I dont need any faster than this. What a deal :)

Lite-On 48x12x48. Awesome burner; bought it for 55 dollars a few months ago.
Lite On 48x24x48; it's amazing.
Lite-On 48x12x48 Ya this truely is the best. I heard the 52's had problems but not sure is it was correct. Anyway I got the 48x24x48 becasue it was on sale for $30. :D

Yamaha 44x24x44. Not the fastest, but it has pretty flashing blue (reading) and purple (writing) lights. :) I also like the disc t@2 feature. With it, you can personalize CDs with an etched image or text on the outer edge of the CD (you do lose some space by using this feature though :( ).

Sony CRX140E 8/4/32x 1.0c firmware (gotta update!)
HP used these exact drives for most of their 8250i and 9100i drives. After I installed the 1.0c firmware of the 9100 on my 8250i (tricky process but it was worth the 4 extra burn speeds), I stopped dealing with it.
Currently, I'm using the TDK VeloCD 40/12/48B :D
Excellent drive for only $100. :)
