I has just installed windows xp x64 and it is slower than xp pro 32, there is some slowdown when opening folders/programs comparing to XP pro 32 bit.
Also I noticed the windows xp 64 is using about 512mb of my memory without any programs in startup, windows xp 32 bit was using about 250mb is same configuration/ same installed programs.
is there any tweaks I can do to make it faster ?
Other making sureyou have loaded all x64 drivers? Not much but I have to say that x64 "feels" faster than XP home right away. Everything just snapped up for me and it has gotten faster now with the C2D.
Make sure you installed the right mobo drivers, etc. Now I do have 2GB versus your 1GB, but with six applications running, including the Sling Player, Winamp and Outlook, I am using 647MB. Did you change virus scan providers?

From some of the feedback I've read about XP 64 it seems that 2 gigs of ram is the sweet spot and benefit can be seen with 4 gigs of ram. I would stay with XP pro until I have at least 2 gigs of ram if I were you. Either that or go with the 32 bit version of Vista.
