Some time ago I made a thread about the pronunciation of the word Linux. I were shown with some enthusiasm by some that I were wrong. Now I'm not here to argue about it again although I still think that I'm right ;) .

What I want to know is how many people know the correct pronunciation of the distro, Ubuntu. I'll bet not many. Being from South Africa and also the region Southern Africa where the word comes from, I know how it must be pronounced.

Ooboontoo ... for the English tongue.

Try and say it like a black man does.

I pronounce it: ooh-buhn-too

Dunno if it's right... but that's how it reads to me.

Pretty standard 'You-bun-too' here. Unless the wifes asking about it, then it's 'U-BUN-Too'! with a Zulu_warrior jig thrown in. Makes her laugh at me.. :p

Nope, it's like I stated in my first post.

Almost all black languages didn't have any written form so many sounds were just substituted with English letters, often with some inaccuracies.

Oo-boon-too

No they don't.

And I mean a black African man.
