FPS in Vista

I'm right about to upgrade to Vista and everything seems fine , until my last fear. My last question is Will getting Vista lower my fps in games? I need to know if Vista will lower my FPS becuase if it does im going to stay with XP. Thanks for the reply. Anyone using Vista will know just please tell me if ur framerate in games was better, worse or stayed the same. Thanks:)

In most games, it'll probably be lower in Vista. Hopefully that'll change as drivers mature, etc. The Stalker MP beta apparently runs better under Vista than XP so maybe that's a sign of things to come.

Probably. Doom 3 runs as good in Vista as XP for me, All my d3d games are slower when comparing single card performance. Not too bad though. Drivers do need to mature a bit like OWA said...ok, ALOT! :p

I believe another 7xxx series driver release is due sometime in march.

^^^ a lot more than that.... lol. Best bet is to do a duel boot with XP and Vista. Then you can play all your games on XP and still play around with Vista and experiment as new drivers come out :)

Of course it is all going to depend on what games your talking about.This broad statement that your FPS will be significantly lower is just not true ,it is going to depend on the game and the drivers you use.

The only FPS games I'm currently playing are BF 2 and BF 2142 and both of those run just as well as they did on XP. Of course diverse system specs and drivers will have people registering different degrees of performance hits.

From what I've seen, having had Vista from beta 2 days; your performance will likely drop going to Vista. In part this will be I've noticed you have 1 GB of RAM. I've had it with 1 GB, and lets just say that the extra memory useage from the operating system itself has left me swaping a fair bit more; with general performance dropping as the hard drives run mad. This also coincides with Task Manager showing the OS (even when at the time it was cleanely installed) taking more memory upon ariving to desktop; then XP had shown.

I know this isn't exactly the question you asked, but rather wrt frames per second. But if you notice general in-game lag, as the hard drives become active, you might want to consider upgrading this to 2 GB or something. It has definitely tended to be an issue as I've played games on it, in the past.

ok, true, when you start vista, it does show it uses more ram, in my case 50% of 2gb. But, there is more to it.

its not really using 1gb. just launch photoshop and keep opening large files. OS memory usage will continue to drop. i got it to 27% with out a issue. and no system slow down.

simply if you have allot of ram, vista will use it for cache to make things work faster, if that ram is required back it will release it
