I just upgraded my system from a 1gig P3 to completley new system based on an AMD Athlon 2200+ (tbred A).

I have the following..

AMDŽ Athlon XP 2200+ (Tbred)
with Coolermaster HHC-L61 Silent Heat-Pipe

MSI K7N2G-ILSR (nForce2)
Integrated Geforce4 MX440 Graphics

512Mb Corsair XMS3200 Platinum
etc etc.. (case with 3 case fans)

The problem is the CPU temp... its 60*c

I used arctic silver 3, i did it as the site said. Exactley. I put the HSF squarley.... i dunno whats going on with it :afraid:.

Does the heatpipe-sink thing have a fan too or is it just the heatpipe and the sink? If there is a fan, make sure its running and that its plugged in.

Other than that, double, triple and quadruple check the placement of the sink. All it takes is half a millimeter of the die without contact and it gets real hot, real fast.

Also, how is the case ventilation? If there is a side fan (across from CPU), make sure it is blowing\sucking the same direction as the CPU fan (if there is one), or else NO air will move and the CPU will not get any fresh air.

I have 3 case fans, the HSF has a 2500rpm fan (although it says 3000rpm on their site). Its an ALU case.

Im not sure what i could have done wrong really :(

*edit* Im going to re-do the HSF 2morrow. See if it makes any difference.

Is the heatsink hot to touch? If not, then it is possible that pcalert4 is giving wrong readings, you could try using motherboard monitor (http://mbm.livewiredev.com/download.html) . Your running default voltage, and have some case cooling, even if the heatpipe isnt the best of coolers, your temps shouldnt be that hight  I know it might sound silly, but make sure the heatsink is on the right way and is sitting flat, if it is still hot you can always try a different hsf, I would reccomend the XDream (http://www.coolermaster.com.hk/en/products/cooler/hac-v81.html) , its cheap and performs like a champ, better than any of the Volcanos, ever the Volcano 11 :)

I suggest dumping that heatsink.

I just poped on my Volcanoe 9. Its giving me 41*c when i first start and its at 55*c now. So not much of an improvement really considering its an 80mm FAN and running at twice the RPM. Its also not the quietest hs/fan in the world.. <mumbles>
