View Full Version : Vista Ultimate x64 hanging on boot?!?

Ok so here's the deal. Tonight I formatted my rig (the one in my sig) and installed vista ultimate x64. I previously had RC2 x86 on it (which worked flawlessly). x64 installed without a hitch. But when it boots, it hangs for about 5 minutes at the loading bar. It just sits there doing nothing (that I can tell anyways...no HD activity). After the 5 minutes it boots up fine and runs great.
So I've tried booting into safemode...and it hangs as well. On crcdisk.sys. Well...that's the last driver that's displayed before it hangs...so I don't know if it's loaded already? or in the process of being loaded....
So anyone know what to do? the only drivers I've installed are forceware 100.64 and the x-fi beta driver...
I'm going to try uninstalling those now...see if it's one of them...

Do you have any USB devices connected?

this is caused by a driver or usb drive
i had this happen to be few times with my usb hub, either when i reset the computer, or unplug the hub it boots up
and i had this happen to be because of daemon tools, d-tools where working fine for about 3 weeks, and then all of sudden computer wouldn't boot or freeze in desktop. took me a while to troubleshoot that one. now i installed d-tools again and it works.

Hmmm. interesting...well I don't have any USB drives attached...and I don't think I have any hubs either...and it's still doing it. Come to think of it, I did have my USB thumbdrive plugged in when I rebooted it for the first time after finishing the install. And it did it then, but I've since removed it and it still does it. I'll have to play with it this weekend...

interesting....I have a G25 wheel too! But it didn't cause any problems under x86 RC2...that's what has me confused....is this just an x64 thing?

No I had this G25 problem with Vista 32 and 64. But right now I don't get the black screen anymore. I have like 4 or 5 USB devices connected.
einstein_314, what about the "last known working configuration" option? Does this fix the problem?
