i simply uninstall my current drivers, then reboot when asked to.

install the newer ones and reboot when asked to.

Same here.

More than you need to know, but probably not all there is to say

I'm not even sure that Driver Cleaner Pro works properly in Vista. It didn't seem to do anything in Vista x64 Ultimate cause it didn't find anything to "clean". I've read elsewhere that the nVidia registry entries have a slightly different format in Vista than in XP.

Drivercleaner.NET is Vista ready

I always uninstall the drivers, clean out the registry, then restart, remove the device from device management, then restart, then remove all files associated with the driver, then install the new driver. Working this way never caused me ANY trouble at all!

uninstall, reboot in safe mode, clean with drivercleaner.net, reboot, install drivers, reboot

Exactly how I do it and I've never had any problems. Also make sure to disable any anti-spyware and AV programs before uninstalling and installing drivers.

My method is to wipe the hard drive and reinstall Vista. Install new driver. Done. Simple and easy.
