Well that's what it looks like anyway :)

I noticed on my home and work computers that when the WindowsXP logo appears on the screen before login, there are little flashes of snow or sparkles around the screen and text. The same effect as when you overclock your video cards memory too high.

Go on, have a close look at that logo when Windows XP starts.

(Imagine how long it would take windows to load if they didn't overclock that logo :O )

On all my installs, it doesn't even show that after the first boot. As soon as the boot-up XP screen goes away, I'm instantly at the welcome screen.

Alwell.

Those artifacts are typical from overheating... I highly doubt that the video card is overheating as a result of displaying the boot logo screen. Infact, the only way I could see the logo screen coming up faster is if the hard drive or processor were to be overclocked. I don't think OC'ing the videcard would have anything to do with the display of the boot logo time.

Yeah, I have no idea why the windows logo does that, but it happens on my P3-650 Geforce2 at work, and my XP2100+ (And old 1.2 athlon), Geforce3 at home, even with no OCing. Neither system is overheating due to adequate cooling and air-conditioning.

I was wondering if others had noticed this? The longer XP is installed, the slower it loads, so I get to study this screen in detail.

You're not alone, I've noticed it too. It's a bug in the code and has nothing to do with overheating.
