I have to 8800 cards here and neither of them doesn't want to work in Windows XP. When installing the nVidia driver (any version) the screen goes black, after which the PC resets.
Surprisingly enough Vista has no issues with the cards.
The PSU is a 550W one, so I shouldn't be running out of power.
Any ideas what's causing this and how to fix it?

Can you post specs? please, and brand of the cards.

550W mean jack ****. Need the Amperage capability of the 12v rail/s. A 30$ 600W PSU usualy mean High Amperage 5v lines and crappy 12v lines so just giving us the wattage = useless. Need the Amperage rating of the 12V or at elast the Maker/Model number to find it out.

Given he said it works in vista, we can atleast assume the PSU is able to power the cards properly in 2d mode.

OP:
Had you properly remove all previous drivers before trying to install your cards? I had the sme problem due to old drivers, running driver cleaner pro in safe mode fixed it for me.
