Rage3d is probably a much better place to ask about something like this.

Aye, but since this is the Hardware Rumor mill ill speculate!

Id say since the AIW costs ALOT more than the non-AIW ATI feels it futile to put the AIW gear on the new 399 card, but on the 299 card it makes people more willing to buy it.

So i speculate that the next AIW card will be on the R400.

The AIW 9700 was only recently released, so it's safe to say that there will probably be no AIW 9800.

I reckon late May at the earliest. Don't know anything about it other than the fact that it uses a totally new board.

Seems to suggest it'll be a balls-out 256MB uber-card to me: otherwise they could probably have plopped an R350 in the current AIW 9700 PCB (957, I think). Maybe they'll reveal some more of Ripper2's features as well. There are a few things it can do which aren't exposed right now - YPrPb capture etc.

If there is anything they can do to get it officially recognised as an MCE-compatible PVR by Microsoft you can bet you're bottom dollar they'll make the necessary changes.

Don't count on it appearing though - things aren't exactly going smoothly on the R&D front for ATi at the moment. =\

Care to elaborate some on Ripper2? Never heard of it...

Oh, sorry. Ripper2/RT2 = Theater200.

Thanx for the replies everyone, seeing how Doom 3 is not out, I guess I can wait and see where the cards fall!

In one of my earlier rigs I had a tv tuner, really miss it, but it is nice to have power (currently a GF3, getting to be time to upgrade).

**********UPDATE*********

Ok, Toms Hardware and The Register are saying the All In Wonder 9800 Pro will be avalible this spring

They are saying the AIW9700pro will go to 399$ while the AIW9800Pro will go to 450$,

id say 50$ is worth gettin the extra preformance imho.

I wonder if that price is for the 256MB card. Probably not but that is one thing that is lacking from the release, card speed and memory amount.

Pretty certain it's 128MB @380/340MHz.

you think they will actually implement support for dual monitor for this All in wonder 9800 Pro? or are they going to go with monitor + TV again?

Besides the crap Linux drivers that ATI provides, this is my biggest peeve with ATI cards. I want to see DVI+DVI+TV, not DVI+TV. If I'm going to spend $450 on a single card, I damn well better be getting _everything_, not "almost everything".

I can do better for myself with a nVidia card with dual outs and a WinTV Go card, so that's what my next upgrade is going to be. A real shame - my AIW Radeon is not a bad card, but having to disable my 2nd card whenever I want hardware accelerated OpenGL is driving me nuts.

Agreed Dual DVI's and the other VIVO stuff would be great,

I do have an 'idea' of how it could be done.

Could you have a port on the PCB itself that you had an Addin card 'kind of like the USB things that hook to your mainboard' that add another DVI out? So if you use 2 monitors you can take use it, or you dont have too.

If you have an additional DVI-D output that means disabling one of the mainboard "heads", or having an ASIC capable of outputting to three displays. There's no point... for dual DVI you might as well have two DVI-I ports (or one DVI-I and one DVI-D) on the mainboard and just use adaptors for analogue use.

They do this by using a daughtercard which plugs into the header on the mb (you'll notice all ATi vid cards have soldering points for a header, but only the DC-equipped cards actually have one installed). The DC is held in place using a rigid metal standoff (ATi have a patent on this) and is just a simple, usually 4-layer, PCB that incorporates an SI TMDS transmitter chip. There is a DVI port on the DC and the backplate of the mainboard is modified to allow it to stick through. Like this...

Hm, then my question is,

For my Radeon 9800 Pro, if i bought 2 LCD monitors with DVI input, how could i use em both? Would i need a card with dual dvi's to get the dvi quality?

Yes.
