Recently I purchased 4gig of RAM because the price was right, so I think I might as well move to Vista x64. For those of you who actually know what you are talking about, is there any compelling reason to get Ultimate instead of Home Premium?

I'm more interested in improved gaming performance than improved security.

If cost is an issue I would say get the home premium 64 disc .
Unless you really need data encryption and 128gb ram addressing or whatever ultimate does.
As far as Ultimate backing up your entire pc, If you have that much space to keep a backup then you already have enough drives for raid.

Im sure a lot of Ultimate users would disagree but the only people who would get the full use of it are people who work from home/small business and are running it on a server (with over 16gb of ram) which they also use for gaming and mediacentre use.

Well thanks for the 1 reply and I took the silence from everyone else as "get Home Premium x64 and spend the leftover on beer and Stalker," and went with the Home Premium and beer. Stalker in a few days.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree. And I'll use Microsoft Office 2007 as an example. Give me a Third party/opensource/freeware office program that does better. And don't suggest open office. It sucks.

Hmmmmm, I don't know any other program

So I use Office 2007 Home (good for 3 pcs, so mine and my parents)

I like open office. Right now with Vista I'm using Office 07 but I used OO with XP and it worked like a champ.

Oh and for the OP: I'm using Premium x64 and I really don't see any need to "upgrade" to the Ultimate version.

I'd say HP x64 as well. I haven't used any of the extra features of Ultimate.

Someone might want Ultimate for the complete remote DT. I believe with HP you only have the client and not terminal functionality.

So you can connect to other computers and others may not to a HP rig.

I actually consider that a security plus :p

Fine Office 07 is great ,feel free to throw more money at bill gates,
Its good for the economy.:)
And im sure if you times the extra that Ultimate costs by the amount of people who will buy it that the total will be money well deserved by microsoft for all the hard work they have done.
