In windows vista i have to show hidden files and folders and unhide protected sytem files to view my user folder, does anyone else have to do this?

Also is there a way to index my user folder, because all that i can select from is "default" or "public" not my own. it'd be really nice to index my freaking documents...

because user folder are protected

you need to add permissions to your profile in secrutiy tab

On my machine the users folder, and all subfolders excluding "default", are indexed by default, did you change something? Also your user folder should be clearly visible if you're logged in as that user, but if you're logged in as someone else that may not be the case.

When I look at my indexing options at the same point you are I can see my user account underneath it. Did it pop up a UAC prompt when you went to indexing options? Maybe it doesn't have admin rights in that screenshot.

well i just opened it to see what it was indexing, but it didn't change anything. And no my folder is hidden and the option to unhide it is grayed out, like i can't unhide it.
and i added myself permissions to it, and changed the ownership to me to no avail.

No UAC didn't pop-up because i have it disabled, could that be a problem?

I had that problem with folders that I let Media center watch.

I assigned my pictures folder to media center and after that many of my 3rd party apps could no longer see the folder.

I went into Media center and removed the folder from the watch list and it seems to be working again.
