Hello Community,
A lot of you have been wondering how to run the NVidia 4191 drivers on your Toshiba laptops with the 17 inch lcd screens. I know upon installing the drivers you get bars running accross the screen horizontally and a vertical bar on the right about an inch in width. To fix this do the following. Download my instructions and follow them to the letter. Then replace your XF86Config and modules.conf file with my own. There should be no worries because if you own the Toshiba 1955-S803 our hardware is the same. If you run into any problems e-mail me at DWebb82@msn.com. Enjoy!

David

Make sure you rename XF86Config.txt. What I mean by this is remove the .txt extension before copying it into the /etc/X11/ folder.

Here is the modules.conf file. Please remove the .txt extension from this file before you move it into the /etc/ folder.

David,

I have a 1955-S805 - very similar to but not exactly like your box. None-the-less, I was able to see from your instructions exactly what to do with mine. I'll be writing it up and posting it on my web site and then submitting to linux-laptop.org. I would recommend that you do the same. None of the 1955 series are represented there.

In the interim...you have my sincere gratitude. I was going nuts trying to fix the freaky problems with my display in X, and a couple of the settings were NOT immediately obvious - despite 2 readings of the 90 pages of nVidia docs.
