Now that I'm jumping to the intel core duo I ask you is overclocking it worth it? I have read countless users about how they overclocked their cpu past 3.5ghz and up but does it really give you a performance boost?!!!

Of course it does. On every cpu I have used since the P3, Ocing makes a very nice difference. Just look at the performance difference between the E6600 and the X6800 extreme at stock speeds and imagine adding another 600MHz on top of that.

yes huge boost for me going from 2.13ghz to 3.6ghz

I was saying that because not long ago I read an article on intel based on pentium 4 and they argued about how overclocking didnt make a huge difference in performance! they said that the P4 was so bad that having a pentium 4 clocked at 3.2ghz made no difference from a 2.4ghz!!

hehe, the P4 was so bad that only clock speed could save it;) This (http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=2795) review includes a few P4, X2, and Core2 cpus so you can get an idea of the performance differences

On 3dmark2001, on stock i got about 45000 in my current setup.

I OC'd my processor to 3.2Ghz and slightly overclocked my vid card, and my score jumped to 57000.

Even small overclocks help a lot with the Core 2's. This should prove it as there is a huge leap in performance on an 800mhz OC.

What's the record holding for overclocking on NVNEWS for someone with a Core 2 Extreme Edition X6800? 3.7GHz 4.2GHz? Higher?

Overclocking can make a huge diffrence been overclocking since the Celeron 300 days.

By a cheap CPU then overclock it higher then the fastest CPU out is very nice.
