Well, I am now holding out for Q3 and getting me a 3.0Ghz chip!

BTW - Those prices are per/1000. Not retail prices. retail prices usually arent that much higher though.

I am still waiting, patiently, for k8l

Barcelona, I await thee...

Now that lineup could easily put a hurting to AMD. The 6550 is probably right in line with an FX-62 stock, the only difference is that it is only $163 and probably draws like 1/2 the power too. The brand new 6000+ should easily be trumped by the E6750, so AMD has a lot of ground to make up.

The mainstream can rejoice now, as almost everyone can afford a C2D.

I'm waiting for barcelona as well, but I might be making a slight detour to 45nm quad core if they can keep the pace up.

EDIT: Actually thinking about it more, chances are good that the 6000+ is right in line with the E6550.

I wonder exactly how much these are going to cost retail.

Their previously released price scale was quite a bit different:

I was planning on getting an E6320 before, but if the 6540 and 6550 are going to be in the same price range, why not get one of those?

Well, I think I'm gonna get a 6320 just because I can save some money that way, and just by overclocking it some you can get it to run at the same speed as a c2d6600.

And by Christmas you should be able to get a nice quad core for a lot less.:)

Heh, you know... I don't think there is even any difference between the 6320 and the 6540. They have the same multiplier, and the same amount of cache. If you run a 6320 at 1333 bus speed it'll be the same speed.

I guess its all going to come down to overclockability and price. Hopefully we get some overclocking reviews\previews soon.

Why not the E6600? 224.00 good god that cheap. What mem have you been thinking about Cap?

My question is how do these motherboard manufacturers know what Intel plans to do? They are either speculating or breaking NDA, right?

Is HKPEC pretty solid on these types of predtions?

I'm going as cheap as possible on the CPU since I want to possibly get a quad core within the next year.

Plus it seems like all of the current CPUs (with the same amount of cache) overclock the same, so whether I spend the extra $70 or not probably won't matter in the end.

And I think I'm going to go with this memory since its so cheap and seems to have decent timings:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231098

My next setup will be using a set of those, an Asus P5B, and a 4Mb cache core 2 duo cooled by a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme. I should be able to hit at least 3.4 or 3.5Ghz, regardless of which CPU I buy. And the temps should be as low as they get on air cooling. All of that for around $450, and I plan on selling my current CPU\mobo\ram\heatsink for around $300-$350 (its all worth around $450 new).

... if anyone is interested in my parts now, PM me just so I know. I'll be doing the whole FS\T forum thing later (as well as registering with mike) just to make it all official, but if I know for sure I can sell this stuff it'll make it a lot easier to drop such a big chunk of change on the upgrade.

Just out of interest have people forgotten that AMD exist? If K8L delivers which I hope it does I can see a load of upgrade plans being torn up.
