Can't wait :D
These will be the cards to play Crysis on. I cant wait either.

You will play Crysis fine on a 8800 series card.

Exactly. WTF? Why would you need any better than an 8800 GTX to play Crysis on? They developed the game using one.

G100?
I was hoping it would have more Xs in the codename. :( Like
The XXG1X00XXX XTX or something. When is NVIDIA going to learn that CUSTOMERS WANT MORE X'S?!

Coming from the guy with *2* 8800GTXs. :p
Akbar didn't say you'd need these to play Crysis, he said these would be the cards to play it on (ie, to get the best experience).

The way things are going the G100 could be matching up against the R600.

First off, I didn't buy my *2* GTX's for Crysis. I bought them because I plan on keeping my setup for at least another 9 months to a year and wanted to future-proof. So the fact that I have SLI has nothing to do with this.
Secondly, how do you or anyone else know that one 8800GTX won't run Crysis just fine? There isn't a single game on the market that is coded well that the 8800GTX won't rip through. And given the track record of Crysis' developers, they code very well. And from what they have hinted so far, it will run very well on a single 8800GTX. The game is also optimized for DX10 which is much better suited for graphics hardware, anyway.
I'm just amazed at all the people who keep downplaying the 8800GTX in favor of a refresh card that nobody has even seen or heard final specs for yet. There seems to be one at every turn. VRZone said in that linked article that there won't be any major changes with it, so why are so many so hooked on the idea that it's so much better?

Crysis wasn't developed on an 8800 GTX. It's just the latest Nvidia hardware they have available to use. Development probably started on the "6" series, or maybe a little earlier.
The Doom 3 engine started out on the GF1 and was released ~ the "6" series and X800 launch. I certainly notice a difference in Doom 3 based games when playing on my 8800 as opposed to my X1900, or X800 before that.
I guess one would need a G100, which by the way is not a refresh, to play at higher settings. IMO, it's kind of crazy to think that the 8800s will be all anyone needs to play games coming out the second half of this year.
Far Cry played like crap on my 9800, much better on my X800, and nearly flawless on my X1900XT. But is wasn't until my 8800 GTS that I could play it completely maxed out @ 1280 w/ HDR & AA without getting drops in the 20's and 30's in levels like "volcano".
And no matter how great they program, Crysis will be much more demanding than that.
These cards will probably be out the same time as Crysis which is why I said they will be the best cards to play Crysis with. XionX2 always seems to get sand in his Vagina. My girlfriend swears by Tampax matey.

Doom 3 was developed on Geforce 2's. That doesn't mean you want to play the game on one. (seriously, the game was designed around it's feature set, and runs with everything except the vertex shader heat shimmer effect, just slowly).
edit: Guess I should read the whole thread before posting! Someone brought that up.

I doubt the 8800 will play Crysis with 16XQ AA.
At the moment the demos of Crysis are using a single 8800GTX as they have not added the SLi profile yet.

Maybe not 16xQ AA, but possibly 16x AA. It is hard to say. I do have my doubts that dual super-oc'd GTXs could do 16xAA at a res of say 2560x1600- but maybe dual GTXs could pull off 16x AA at lower resolutions such as 1920x1440 or 1600x1200 with no problem. As for my two GTSs, I'm hoping for smooth framerates at 1920x1440 with 8xAA / 16xAF and all in-game options maxed. Though I'm aware I might not be so fortunate. :o
In my opinion, as of right now there is no need for a refresh. Any game that has good coding is a piece of cake for the G80. Especially for two of them in SLi. And once we start using DX10 (i.e. running Crysis in Vista) I'm sure we'll be even more impressed by the G80. On the other hand, the R600 could be a real beast with DX10 as well, thus requiring a refresh to the G80. Don't know and wont know for some time yet.
Regardless, I probably wont go for the refresh to G80 and very well might not buy any more cards untill G100. These two 640MB GTSs are still impressing me with how fast they are.

Crysis will be a tough game for 2560x1600, 2xAA and 16xAF I think... even with dual 8800 GTX.

Then what card are they using to code it for DirectX10 on? What are they using to test it with?

That's true, and most demos we have seen--especially the later ones--have ran damn near perfect.
There's a big difference between games that are coded well and games that are coded like crap. Call of Juarez runs at 120fps with SLI, and Vanguard runs ~50fps with SLI. That's the amount of difference it can make.
And does anyone want to wager that Crysis' development team are poor at coding? They're developing their own graphics engine for ***** sake.
Some of you need a reality check.
Also the Ge-force 3
I didn't have a geforce 3 to test it on.... I have run Doom 3 on a Geforce 2, just to see if it worked. With everything on. It works ok, just runs really slow, there's also some degredation in image quality b/c it takes so many passes to render, error tends to accumulate. But the shadows, shaders, everything work- the more modern cards just get to do it in less passes, since using pixel shaders lets the card collapse 10 or 20 passes into a lot less.
Cute.
