Looks like 2 days..What did you guys think of the Presidents Address?

I thought it was a pretty good speech other than the part where he said not to destroy the oil its for the Iraqi people. What do you think will happen when you tell a stubborn tyrant not to do something? Hes going to do it even worse..?

Also its pronounced ( Nu - Cleer ) not (Nu - Clee - er)..:D

He'll probably leave. But who would take him in?

FRANCE!! And they'll probably vote him in as the next president.

I'm just kidding so no one get angry! It's a joke.

Bush wants his war and has to have a reason for it, so he makes a demand that he KNOWS Saddam won't do. Therefore, he get his war.

Let us dissect the whole thing for a second, shall we?

Bush demands that Saddam comply with the UN or Bush will go to war. If Bush goes to war, he GOES AGAINST the UN.

So let me get this straight. Everyone else BUT the US has to comply with the UN??

Did I miss something here, or is Bush the pot calling the kettle black???

Bush summed it up when he said he doesn't need someone else to allow him to protect me and other Americans. The UN is there to settle disputes, not to stop a country from defending it's own citizens.

And if you say Saddam is not a threat I don't believe you. I CAN NOT believe Saddam is NOT A THREAT. Look at his history. I don't see how you can say without a doubt he is NO THREAT.

The UN is turning into the League of Nations.... :(
This makes me sad.

Man, I wish I had something funny to say....I'm just too bummed about what is about to go down and all the suffering involved. :(

Hmmm...did anyone else notice that it looks like King George forgot his anti-smirk prescription this time? He didn't quite smirk, but he came damn close a few times.

(I can STILL knock the Shrub as mercilessly as I want until the war actually begins...then I reconsider me stance.)

I think, at this point, the best thing to do is hope and pray that any invasion can be carried out with the least possible damage to human beings possible.

Not much else really to hope for.

"I thought it was a pretty good speech other than the part where he said not to destroy the oil its for the Iraqi people."

Who will buy this oil. The US. Who will it make rich? The iraqi people. Why would it help the Iraqi people to have oil after the war? To have a export that it in VERY HIGH DEMAND.

Well about 48 or so (after that they will start the war at a time of their choosing) till marines **** down pain on Saddam. Good.

I agree.

I hear that comment much differently, and I think people are twisting it around a bit:

Here's what he said:

"... yada yada... Do not burn oil wells etc. ... the oil BELONGS to Iraq's people."

Whether it's the French, the U.S., the Zimbabwans or those poor people freezing ass in the Yukon, we all WANT that oil, for sure. But it isn't ours, never will be (until we pay for it, of course).

But it BELONGS to the people of Iraq, who should rightfully be able to enjoy the wealth and economic prosperity that it would afford them without Saddam the moron in power. If Saddam continues his madness and burns his own oilfields, he is, for sure, screwing his people right in the wrong hole.

He is evil.

"If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure."

ER, no. That's Dan Quayle. How do I know? Because it was a buddy's senior quote ;)

UDawg

You know I would really like to see these so called quotes in the entire context of the interview. It is all too easy to take any statement and on it's own and make a person look silly.

I remeber the 1988 vice presidential debates in which Dan Quayle made a point on tas cuts and used JFK as his example.
At leas I think it was about tax cuts. Any way Lloyd Bentsen replied with "I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine and your no Jack Kennedy." The crowd whent wild thinking this was such a toast and maybe it was but Dan Quayle just stood there and took it. He took it! I would have at least whent down swinging by saying "Yes you did know Jack Kennedy....and so did all the local prostitutes." I'm sure it would have been the end the the campaign but man what a moment. I think Quayle said something like "come that wasn't called for" or something like that. Any way Dutaxus and Spensen lost and thank God for that.

Sorry for the rant. That moment in American politics always bothered me.

So again Bush leaves questions open wether this is for the benefit of the Iraqi people. Saddam has been offered exile again:rolleyes:

Robin Cook has also stepped down from the government over this, to a standing ovation I might add in the houses of parliment.

WHile this whole time the French are sitting back realizing how F'D they are if everything goes up in flames, because then they couldn't begin to stomach the prices on that oil.

They have some heavy dealings with Iraq, and Saddam Hussein has WAY too much power over the world right now (look at how he has divided the world's powers). That guy has been slowly laughing harder and harder all the way to the bank since he kicked out the UN team in 1995. Slowly, he has inched his way back into the limelight (that's his No. 1 possession). Now he's there, and he has an entire world looking at him with a close eye. He's a PR machine! Hitler was a public speaking machine, but Saddam does it through stealth, smoke and mirrors.

Saddam has the French in his pocket right now. Wouldn't be a bit surprised if asks them for help against the U.S.

That said, I think the U.S. has done a great deal to help him get back into that spotlight by focusing its attention so closely on him.

But be sure of this, the U.S. doesn't have any more want for the oil than the next guy. France, Germany, Britain - ALL of them want to make sure that oil stays cheap and abundant.
