View Full Version : Movies / TV Shows You'd Like to See in Hi-Def
One of the other threads touched on this some already and recently when ordering some movies from Amazon, they had a box that could be filled out to ask for movies you'd like to see in hi-def. Anyway, I thought it would be interesting to see what people are most looking forward to seeing in high definition. Please don't turn this into another Blu-ray vs HD DVD debate though. There is more than enough of that already.
Here are some that I hope make it to hi-def (not really in any order):
LoTR Trilogy
Star Trek (all of the movies)
Jurassic Park 1-3 (although mostly the first one)
Alien 1-4 (although mostly Aliens)
Matrix Trilogy
Independence Day (ID4)
Twister
Armageddon
Dante's Peak
The Day After Tomorrow (don't like the propaganda but I like disaster flicks)
Sum of All Fears
Crimson Tide
Titanic
Gettysburg
Saving Private Ryan
The Patriot
Gladiator
The Exorcist
From Dusk Till Dawn
Underworld
Blade
Resident Evil
The Cave
The Time Machine
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
From TV (since I already own these on standard def, I'll probably sample one or two to see how much hi def benefits a TV show):
Buffy The Vampire Slayer seasons 1-7
Stargate SG-1 seasons 1-9 (10 as soon as it's done)
Stargate Atlantis seasons 1-2
Eureka

Buffy The Vampire Slayer seasons 1-7
from what i understand Joss shot all the Buffy episodes (minus the musical) in 4:3....so while they could probably make it look better it wouldn't be WS....

The Exorcist
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
all of the original Planet of the Apes movies
American Graffiti
Easy Rider
Escape From New York
Grease
That's all I can think of now except for maybe
the Faces of Death series...

Main ones I want are Sergio Leone westerns... but mostly Once Upon a Time in the West, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly... those movies are just so awesome... I would also love to see Ravenous.

Is Rescue Me really that good? I never watched it but enjoy some other FX shows (been watching The Shield from the start... season 6, I think it is?, April 3 WOOT, and I thought Thief was an awesome show also), but never really watched that one.
Then again you have Lost, X-Files, and Firefly on the list also... not sure if we have similar tastes :\.

Is it season 6? I could've sworn it was technically season 5 part 2. I'm pissed if it IS season 6 (and hell, even if it's just 5p2) because the first 13 episodes still aren't out on DVD. I always like to watch the previous season right before the new one starts so I can make sure I'm fully up-to-date and refreshed on what happened.
The Shield is in my top three favorite shows...absolutely phenomenal.
And Rescue Me is equally awesome. The drama is fantastic, story-telling amazing, and the humor is top-notch. I think both seasons 1 and 2 are on sale for $20 this week at Best Buy and both are worth that and more. I highly, HIGHLY recommend you check them out. Fantastic television right there. :)

24, Scrubs, Dead Like Me, Heroes, The Office and Prison Break please!
Firefly for me also. I can't believe I forgot about that since Serenity/Firefly are some of my favorites. Wish they'd revive the Firefly series also.

The Patriot and Saving Private Ryan should be in production and should be releasing on BluRay hopefully within the next quarter or two.
My top picks would be Gladiator, Dawn of the Dead (remake :p) and few others

You sure about SPR? It's a Spielberg flick and as far as I know, he's not allowing any of his stuff to be released on either next-gen format as of yet.

It's all personal preference, you loved the 'horror' movie Session 9, I think that was hidously retarded. I enjoyed the Dawn of the Dead Remake, you along with many others hate it :)

Cool.
I can't wait for the Chiller channel on Directv to go HD hopefully later this year. Yea I know they have commercials but it's the only horror channel available right now except for Monsters HD on Dish and hopefully Directv will carry that later this year also when their satellites go up.
HDNET Movies has some decent HD transfers of horror movies sometimes. I saw Friday the 13th on there one night and it looked pretty damn good.
Yeah, Jaws is another one I should have listed.
I really like a bunch of the horror movies like Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Pumpkinhead, Candyman, etc. but I wasn't sure how well they'd look in HD. Since they're a little older, I was concerned the added detail and clarity of hi-def might make some of the special effects look fake.

Yea it might, but remember the film they were shot on has more resolution than HD.
A lot of people think regular dvd is the best a lot of old horror movies (and just old movies in general) will ever look. Wrong.
Uh oh, that's pretty much what I was thinking so thanks for clearing that up (setting me straight). :)

Hmm, no star wars fans here? I haven't seen any listing for them yet but it is possible that you guys already know they are coming out with them in HD.

It is also possible Star Wars sucks.
I did like the original one when I was younger and it first came out but now I have no love for it at all. I never did want to see the sequels even back then.
