I bought an e6400 only a few months ago thinking there would be no major changes in the line-up or price drops for at least another 6 months and now this. I hate buying something then the price falling so soon after.
DOH!!!
I want to swap now please for an e6420 :)

Sorry to hear your luck man. The PC parts market is like standing by an escalator watching it move and once you buy your parts you are put on the escalator as you move down till the next upgrade.

You're E6400 is fine man! Don't be so down! Just clock it to 3.2 and wait till quads are <$500.

Yeah, that's why I have decided to buy a cheapee Celeron D 356 so that I won't be w/o PC for the time being and wait patiently for the 6850 in the 2nd half of '07. I'm not so much an OCer, so Duo 2 Core @3Ghz is going to be good for me.

Don't act so surprised... with PC's its always a gamble :p Just be happy with what you got and OC the hell out of it ;) Then when prices drop pick yourself up a nice quad core and do it all over again :D

:udawg:

I'll take it... and overclock it to hell and back. :D

What do you mean "and now this"? The 6420 isn't out yet and won't be for a month or more. Besides, the plans for the line-up changes and price drops have been floating around the internet since probably christmas.

Think I may swap for a QX6800, or maybe a Q6700.

any core2duo will be fine for quite a while

my suggestion is to do what i do - only upgrade on major arcitecture changes

ex: p4 -> core2 duo (in my case athlon 64 to core2)
or: nVidia 6800 GT -> nVidia 7800 GTX

Moving from a 6600 to a quad core wouldn't be too big of a difference at the moment. Maybe if I encoded video all the time...

Yeah I've had people tell me that I would feel the burn with my e6300 underpowering my 8800gts...but I don't. Every game I have runs better than fine at max settings. Hell, even fear hits a 40fps minimum with everything maxed out, and according to the readme that game technically shouldn't be playable on anything if you use the tip top settings.

What do you have the E6300 clocked at ,since most of them will do 3gig or better.

I wouldn't worry about it, looks like in most games the performance difference is less than 10%.

So is that why Intel has the faster line of processors out right now?

Yeah... Whoever has the faster processors wins.

Intel's Core 2 Extreme Edition is crushing AMD! Hell, NVIDIA is crushing ATI case closed~(nana2) I don't go cheap on any computer hardware part.

I'd love to get an Intel Quad Core 2 Extreme at a higher clocked speed then 2.66GHz a 3.73GHz at stock speeds would be freak'in sweet! :D

That was actually my initial plan.
And like I thought when I bought it , I can wait the extra time for encoding.

How many actual types of core2 are produced, 1? 2? more?
do they make them all 4mb cache and some fail initial tests and stay at being 4300's or whatever?
YES IT IS A STUPID QUESTION

Thats the nature of the game... I paid almost $600 for my GPU and now you can get a 512MB for $200 less than mine...

Got my 4000+ a few months before dual core...

I bought the X-Fi platinum thinking it had XRAM, but thats the Fatal1ty...

The list goes on and on, just keep chugging along ;)
