The elite lives and it is a bigger rip off than I even imagined. 180 bucks for a 120 GB hard-drive.

Now it supports HDMI too, so if you don't have an Xbox360 and can afford afford a little bit more, It looks like its worth it to pay the premium for the Elite IF you have a very nice HDTV.

Wow... I was about to rip you apart for posting that thing about the Harddrive, but the prices of Notebook HDD's have come down A LOT since the last time I checked.

120GB SATA drive @ Newegg.com: $84.99

So if you're buying your first Xbox360, it's worth it. Otherwise, don't bother.

And yes, Microsoft is gouging the 120GB removable HDD, which is complete and utter bull****.

I do find it funny that people are knocking this so much... because no one is forcing anyone to buy it, and the current one works just find with 1080p over VGA.

I haven't heard anything about the audio on this one, and so far I have read that the die shrink has not happened yet.

Eventually these will replace the premium models once they get them out of stock from what I have read. Time will tell.

I ask you this, the PS3 advocates you upgrade your harddrive if you want. You can buy any SATA HD. So, I can go out and get a 300gb monster for cheaper than the 120GB XB360. This makes no sense.

The PS3 and the Xbox360 use 2.5" hard drives. The biggest I've seen available is 160GB. Research before posting please.

My bad, I am work so I forgot to check...mea culpa. However, don't you find it odd that MS is gouging the consumer for 179 bucks for a 80 dollar piece of equipment. Moreover, they get OEM high volume prices so it is probably closer to 50 bucks or so cost to MS. If not, you are a MS employee...lol.

104 bucks for the 160GB version.

If it was $400, I would pull the trigger so fast and so hard.

$480...I'll have to think about it. Especially because I've heard rumblings that this is going to be a permanent model instead of a limited run that will come back white and replace the current premium. :o

If you wanted to go that route then you'd need to do it external.

104 bucks for the 160GB version.I agree with you 100% on that point. $180 for the 120GB hd add-on is to much IMO. It seems like they are charging about $80 for the actual enclosure. The only good point for new 360 buyers is that the 120GB HD will only cost them $80 instead of $180 since the Premium 360 sku is still $399 and the Elite sku is $479.

Well I can understand why they have the $180 price tag on the 120GB. If it was any less then why not just go out and buy the core and the 120GB HDD?

Then take into account that the average user probably doesn't know what the **** a HDD looks like, let alone install one. That might be a bit intimidating to a PS3 user where as Xbox360 they just snap it on the top and it's done.

Who the hell needs the 120GB hard drive though?

I'm still using the 20GB one and have 12GB left, struggle to fill it even if I tried. Unless your someone who likes keep OLD game trailers and such.

Got my PC for alot of stuff I wouldn't bother using a console for.

$180 dollars is a lot better price than they have right now on the 20GB model. It's $100 right now for a 20GB drive, or you can spend another $80 for another 100GB.

@Peoples Agent: I'm sure you'll be able to fill it eventually, how long have you had the 360? It will probably be around for another 4 years, and over that much time I'm sure you'll be able to collect enough junk to fill it up. :)

With the Market PLace it wouldn't take long to fill any HD if you invest in all the downloadable media, they have tons of movies and episodes available. I would but I need room for demo's... maybe I will pickup the new HD. :o

Sony needs a price drop on the 60gb unit to put some pressure now, the price difference is not large anymore.

IPTV users and serious movie downloaders. Plus if you like putting movies from you PC to your 360.:p

Wasn't the reason for both the hdmi interface and the larger hard drive for iptv functionality?

That is quite the price bump for a HD, good thing I don't need hdmi nor a 120gig drive on my 360.
