go to monoprice.com and look for hdmi to dvi cable. you should be able to hook it up on pc monitor. i haven't tried it myself. maybe i should since my monitor is 1080p.
i don't think there'll be quality loss since hdmi is pure digital and dvi is also digital if not pure.

yeap you can hook ps3 up with a hdmi to dvi cable, you can get one anywhere
But you will need to hook up the sound through the optical out port

pretty much any namebrade LCD today is HDCP compatible. older LCD's probably wont support it though.

or buy a 24" lcd pc monitor :D
I'm using my PS3 on my Dell 2407FPW via DVI input, will be getting a 2707 this summer.
Anyways, I'm using a female HDMI to male DVI adapter with a HDMI cable instead of a HDMI-DVI cable, and this way I can reuse the HDMI cable later if I'm ever going to hook my PS3 up with a HDTV. I've also got a DVI swticher to connect both the PS3 and PC to the same DVI input on the monitor.

nah, ill go 50" if i ever upgrade innit, no use mucking about ;)
edit* or 3d-monitor if they sort out the depth issues, and nvidia sort out the drivers (which i hope will happen if stereo-tvs become the norm)
maybe some day they will have an HDCP decoder :bleh:
(is it even possible?)

Anything is possible, and yes, I'm also waiting for the day that they come out with a bypass device. :)

Use a 20wmgx2. They're pretty damn good for the ps3, they're hdcp compliant. although for pc's it's max res is pretty damn limiting. and no wide color gamut, but great monitor, don't use it in bright conditions though.
I'm using one of mine with a Dell 24" LCD but I'm using a component cable. Using that, it won't let me use 1080p though (just 480p, 720p and 1080i).

I thought an HDMI to DVI converter bypassed HDCP. Wasn't that one possible fix to the screen flicker issue with the PS3+Westie 37W3, the second being unplug the HDMI and plug it back in.

It's already there. There's something called a Gamestation or Gameswtich acts as a swticher and a decoder: http://www.green-box.com.tw/products/view/id/104
If you can read Chinese take a look at this review, in which they tested the unit by hooking the PS3 to a Dell 2405:

i meant an HDCP decoder.
It does decode HDCP. It allows you to play PS3 games on a none HDCP compliant monitor like the Dell 2405 @1080P.

Im currently using a X2VGA 2.0 for my PS3 and X360 while I wait for a new HDTV. I haven't had any issues playing Blu-Ray and Games on my monitor.

I personally see no need for an hdtv, I just think a pc lcd and an older tv (but w/ a/v inputs, stereo, no burn-in and not a zenith) for older consoles is necessary for me.
Revisiting a super nes or ps1 favorite is not good on any hdtv. It takes the fun out of the graphics and ultimately the game, >= it does on my hdtv.
I don't know what the **** to do when all of the tv's from the early/mid 90s are busted or have burn-in.

SD signals usually only look bad on HDTVs with ****ty SD circuitry. For example, my Sony Bravia looks just as good as an old CRT TV through our non-HD cable....but my Symphonic 720p HDTV looks like a pixalated pile of ****.
It all depends on the quality of the TV.

definitely.
i was playing on a 13" SD monitor a few weeks ago and the image looked as good as an HD picture. its probably just because the screen was so small that the pixels were tiny, makin it look crisp :rofl
