View Full Version : PS3 version 3?
As you all know there is one version of the PS3 for the US and Japan and a second version for Europe. Now (according to Kotaku) a third version will be coming down the pipe and this time there seems to be a few upgrades (Elite style?).

Man this is getting ridiculous, one of the biggest benefits of a console over a PC is that they are standard issue units. Now we're looking at half a dozen different options between Sony and MS

But isn't calling the most elite console "elite" redundant?

I think they're gonna slide the word "Uber" somewhere in the title! (nana2) :headexplode:

no no, it will be True elite. Sort of what they did with "True HD" when 1080p came out.

The current PS3 is the elite console.
The next PS3 will be the REAL elite console.

As long as the developers stick to the spec's of the standard model, then there isn't a problem. Adding a larger drive and different display connectors don't change the potential gaming capabilites of a console.
I'm not particularly surprised of the announcement of a larger hard drive for the PS3, it isn't really that much of a big deal either. Sony puting in a new GPU or faster CPU would be a big deal, and a major change to the system.

If there is going to be another version of the PS3 I only see them making it a cheaper model. What would they add to the new version really thats missing in the PS3? Make all the software jokes but hardware wise the PS3 is pretty much well rounded, it really isn't missing anything. Why make a new package with a larger HD when the users can add that themselves?
What I can see them doing is reworking the controller and replacing that in future systems, it was done for the PSX so it can be done now.
Ok that's it. I'm done with consoles...
I very much doubt that they will release an "Elite" version since they already commented about that http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=88837
Plus... what more can they actually do to make the PS3 better?

if this was before games were made:
-better GPU
-A CPU better suited to I don't know GAMING to allow easier dev times to make devs want to make games for it.
-scaler

-scaler
The scaler is there, and they've made progress towards fixing it in games...but its not where it needs to be yet.
If they can get it to scale Blu-Ray movies down to 720p instead of all the way to 480p, THEN the scaler will be working perfectly.
