Hey guys, I've gotten the following OC going:

http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=182686

Now, the load temps are 54C according to PCProbe but CoreTemps suggests they reach 60C at times...which one is more accurate and are these temps way too high?

Also, the overclock is Orthos stable for 4 hours.

Nope, those are fine. That's about what I get on my Opty 170.

I'm using my parents' pc currently and i have the successor to your motherboard and I'm getting a consistent 38 C thru asus pc probe.
Same cpu, I'm using a p180B, 2 scythe for exhaust and mid vga fan is a 108cfm sunon.

I would take Core Temps reporting.

Core temp reads from a digital sensor inside each cpu. Afaik pc probe doesn't.

54c with liquid cooling?? GOOD LORD MAN!!!! With the thermaltake blue orb air cooling my 4000+ runs @ 25c-28c idle and 35-38c load @ 2.7ghz. The dual cores really run that much hotter?? Seems a bit high.

Yeah my 3700+ was running at about 40C max load with like 1.45V through it. This one is really a lot warmer.

Oops! Maybe not. I just checked and I'm currently at 41' C on both cores. I'll have to check load temps, but I'm also on AIR and not WATER.

Yeah and please check with CoreTemp. Mine idle is around 33C.

I'm idling at about 28-30 'C on each core, and I'm fully loaded up at 54/49'C using orthos.

Aren't Opteron processors able to take more heat than the regular X2's?

Anyway....I'd consider anything under 60'C for an opteron to be ok. The biggest thing to remember about coretemp...while it does provide seemingly more accurate readings, that the internal diode it references is not "officially" factory calibrated by AMD and they offer absolutely no support for it's usage.

The temp sensor from your mobo is usually accessed using a S I/O chip and is usually taken from the socket just below the die of the processor.

hope this helps,

JC

My CoreTemp is reading around 39' C idle on both cores right now.

My 4800X2 idles at around 45 degrees but after gaming its up to nearly 60 degrees. I've always thought that was a bit high especially considering I have a Thermaltake Blue Orb II sitting on it. Its also O/C'ed to 2.6GHz, but the O/C only raises temps about 3-4 degrees at most. The rig is stable, so I never thought anymore about it especially since I'm building a new C2D rig soon.

What is a good cpu temp monitoring app? I have a DFI board.
