You should point out that this only pertains to the Euro nations, not Japan and US where the Wii is outselling the PS3 easily.

Crap! People just don't give a **** if a company craps on you here.. We get the console last even though we're one of the largest markets AND we don't even get a single movie with our console(except for the ones who were the first to register), yet everyone seems to have forgotten about that and decided to let sony get away with it. :thumbdwn:

And the pricing is just ridiculous(but I guess that isn't really Sony's fault).

I talk to so many average dudes here who know nothing about the gaming industry or games in general but sound worse than the Sony Fanboys, who at least can accept the PS3 is making mistakes on its launch.

In fact as I read it, it only applies to the UK. They don't even mention the rest of the EU.

Can anyone in the UK confirm that there is actually stock available though? The original source claims that they only sold 165k out of 220k of the launch day stock.

Edit: Source's source (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/26261/Record-breaking-165000-PS3s-sold-at-UK-launch)

I've seen them on the shelves only a few days back.

Edit: And still available online.

That's not necessarily a sign of poor sales, it just shows that Sony is able to meet demand which many seem to believe is a bad thing.

I'm sure everyone is really just loving the fact that you can't find a Wii anywhere.

"YAY, I CAN'T FIND A WII ANYWHERE!!! GO NINTENDO THIS IS AWESOME!!!!! SONY SUCKS CAUSE I CAN ACTUALLY FIND ONE OF THEIR CONSOLES!!!"

Are you retarded? Somebody asked if a person from the UK could confirm if they were still available or not. Gotta love fanboys who leap at anything :rofl

Yeah, I was just curious if that was actually showing up in stores or not. It's just kind of unusual for a console to be able to meet demand the first day. Obviously it's selling really well so it's not a knock on it or anything.

There are many a great deal more retarded than I.
I prefer to think of myself as intellectually challenged.

Considering they delayed the launch for over a year, you'd HOPE they could meet demand.

This is a UK only story, and the http://www.mcvuk.com/news/26261/Record-breaking-165000-PS3s-sold-at-UK-launch has it clarified in the title, even if lacking elsewhere. All in all, it is a decent chunk of consoles to sell in one go, but it does bring a lot more questions surrounding continued sales. If there is console availibility and almost everyone who wants one gets one on launch day, how many more consoles will be sold afterwards? Give it a few months and we will know.

This thread should be renamed "PS3 now the Fastest Selling Console in UK History"

A followup: http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/03/playstation-3-sales-plunge-82-in-uk/

Not sure it means anything. If everyone who wanted one got it on launch day then it makes sense that sales would slow down.

Seems like the same thing that happened in the US and Japan has happened in Europe. All the hardcore Playstation fans ran to stores and picked up the PS3 as soon as it was available. After that mad rush sales pretty much hit the floor.

The drop in PS3 demand was much less pronounced in the US market, as it took a while for unit availability to catch up. Now that there are units for all the first adopters it will be interesting to see how much consistent demand remains.

My favorite quote from the article

Having sold an estimated 165,000 units before, the percentage represents a drop of 135,300 units, resulting in total sales of 29,700 systems for the week.

Previously, it was stated that the initial PS3 shipment for the UK numbered 220,000. With 55,000 units remaining after the first week and without considering any subsequent stock, it means that the PS3 sold an estimated 54% of its remaining stock. Compared to the 75% of stock sold in its initial week, it still makes for a notable 21% drop. Though the days are early yet and the PS3's overall performance in the country (and the rest of Europe) has yet to be assessed, things look to have slowed down quickly and considerably.

So they aren't sold out, there are still some on the shelves, and it's the fastest selling? If anything, all it has is the largest fan base of early adopters. What marks a good console is if people who DIDN'T own a previous gen of the console buy it. So far my bet would be that almost all the PS3 purchases came from previous PS2 owners. This would work if all of them converted, but it doesn't look that way to me

This just in...

After almost two weeks of mostly positive PlayStation 3 news, the numbers are in for Sony’s second week of sales in the UK and it isn’t a pretty picture. Sales for hardware were down 82% and software 60% in only the second week of sales.

Now I know it's week 2 and all but owwww.
