I noticed in alot of sigs, that people made the jump to the core2duo. 2006 must be the most upgraded year for people here.

Ive never seen a fast upgrade as quick as these. Is the Core2Duo that good of a CPU? cuz this is the most popular cpu to date even surpassing the original Athlon Tbird.

no money to upgrade :(

Almost have the $$$ to upgrade, but not sure what to upgrade to. :(

I've heard that AMD will be cutting thier prices in about a week, and that the 6000 may go for only $200. If this holds out to be true, then I'll probably stick with AMD. :D If not... I guess I'll wait for Intel's price cuts.

I have been holdin out, but now games are actually starting to use multicores (supcom being the poster child)...

The coming price cut will be the last straw for me.

That's kind of what I'm thinking also. If AMD's price cuts are so dramatic that the 6000 only goes for $200, how can you not go with AMD? I could wait and see what Intel does, maybe I could get an E6600 for around $200? If Intel could offer me a new E6600 for around $200 I'd go Core2 in a heart beat.

But if they can't than AMD FTW. ;)

Well if you can wait this is supposedly what's coming down Intel's chute.

That's what I'm waiting for. I've held on to this X2 for a while now. ATM I'm even considering picking up a 939 X2 4600 2.4 just because, over all it would cheaper than picking up a C2D board and DDR2. Plus, I plan on getting my money's worth out this 3800 since I paid around $350 for it shortly after they came out and I'm not quite ready to ditch my DDR500 either. I know my 8800 would be much happier with a Q6600 but my performance at top setting still doesn't disappoint me.

$266 for a Q6600 is sufficient to make me go Intel. :D :D :D

Now, when are these price cuts expected? Last I heard it was some time this month. Not sure if that is accurate or not. Anybody know for certain? Supposedly AMD's pricecuts are expected as early as next week.

The cuts I showed are Q3 so you have a few months.

Well, I could look on the bright side- it gives me that much longer to start saving up. ;)

Really though, my actions are software related. I tend to go overboard and purchase ultra high end if there is some new app (usually a game) that needs the power.

bottom line: Software sells the Hardware.

I switched.... LOVE this CPU :D Great combo with an 8800GTX ;) These Core2Duo's are great overclockers too! Reminds me of when AMD whooped Intel's ass with the Athlon XP line.... same type of feeling :p

I'm so torn and confused!!!

I know the Core2 lineup is superior, but I've fallen in love with the 6000+ASUS CrossHair combo. I'm extremely torn. Wait a few months and get a quad core for only $66 more and be capalbe of near a 1GHz oc, or stick with AMD, have the setup sooner, but only have dual core with maybe a couple hundred MHz oc... :(

I guess I'm just gonna' have to wait. As much as I don't want to, I should...
