Thanks for posting this.

The card itself looks nice, but the 128-bit bus seems to be holding it back. Somehow I expected more, I wait for other reviews but the preview of Hardwarezone http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=87445&page=5 (posted by trinibwoy) seems to indicate the same.

I am very curious how the card (just as the 8800) performs in DirectX10.

I am pretty sure it will be a beast if you don't use FSAA.

NM, I looked at the entire review.

I was stoked about this card, but it performs worse than a 7900. I am disappointed to say the least. My 7600GT was faster than my 6800GT (which was oc'd beyond Ultra speeds)- so I expected the 8600GT to be more in line with a single 7800GTS atleast.

Meh...

Remember, the card is supposed to be around $150. I'd say that's pretty darn good for a $150 card.

Also keep in mind all them benchmarks use 4x FSAA + 8x AF. SO will hurt the 128bit Bus even if it is clocked at 2000MHz 32GB/sec Vs 86GB/sec on the 8800GTX and 64GB/sec on the 8800GTS.

NOt really apples to apples as the 8600GTS is clocked 745/2290MHz

MSI 256MB Geforce 8600GT up for grabs for under 100 http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/product.aspx?code=GCM-XN86GT256&af=50

I doubt the mem is 2290Mhz, it probably meant 1145Mhz total, so like 573 DDR2. If not, then wtf aren't we running 8800GTX's @ 750/2300+?!? What's up with the core being so high? Goes to show you how they hold out on us to suck up our cash flow.

It's 2290MHz on a 128bit memory bus, versus the 8800GTX's 384bit bus. By the looks of these benchmarks it's starving for more memory bandwidth, even at 2290MHz.

The standard clocks on the 8600GTS is 675/2000MHz. VRZone used voltage adjustments on their card.

WooHoo, I might just be able to afford it.

I was gonna' buy a couple to throw in my lady's computer- but seeing how it'd cost me just over $300- I'll spend the extra $70 or so to get her a 640MB GTS. It'll perform better than two 8600GTSs while costing not much more.

Then again the X2600 might pack a bit more punch- hopefully.

Isnt there supposed to be a 8600Ultra aswell with a 256bit bus?

Yes, and IMO that's the one to get:

8600 Ultra: 64 SP, core 500 MHz, memory 1400 MHz, 512 MB, 256-bit, $179

I'd really like to see a card with close to 8800GTS power that idled around 45C or even less.

If nVidia or AMD release something like that I'll snatch it up quickly for my secondary rig. I ordered a Thermalright HR-03 Plus recently to try on this 8800GTX.

Wow the Ultra looks a lot better! Finally a 256 Bit interface!

But that article is from January. Is the Ultra really confirmed?
If Ati's mid range effort wipes the floor with Nvidias other feeble midrange cards the ultra will be confirmed in a jiffy.

I thought they renamed the Ultra to GTS, and that's what we have now.

You guys are confused if you look they have no 8600GTS there. The 8600Ultra is the 8600GTS. If you look it's based on the Geforce 7600 PCB so no 256bit memory.

Well that sucks then. It doesn't matter for me though as I have an 8800 card.
