Well hopefully I will have either G81 or better in SLI when this comes out. While my QX6700 may be a good enough CPU for the game I am doubting 2x8800GTX will run the game at 1920x1200 with the level of detail and AF/AA I will want to play it in.

this looks way better than 3DMark06, no way it's running on the same engine.

What about an 8800GTS (640) for 1280x1024 max detail? Just ordered this card and I don't want to have to upgrade again...

Oh god... here we go with the "is XXXX powerful enough to run Alan Wake on my computer at XXXX settings?"

I honestly have no idea, but I'd say you're probably just fine. The 8800 series of cards is more powerful than a lot of people think they are. Their potential hasn't even been close to tappped yet. For all games coming out within the next 6 months, you can probably max the settings and still get great framerates. But who knows.... :headexplode:

By the time this game is out the 8900GTX will be on its first revision.

It's got a very Source-esque palette and lighting model, not that that's a bad thing. Source (and I guess this now) is still the closest engine we have to photorealism IMO. These both have a very styleless look too them.

Don't get me wrong, Crysis and UE3 look freakin' amazing, but they're still obviously CG. Source and AW are both obviously CG aswell, but as far as looks go, I'd say that they're closer to "real life" than the former.

Maybe so but I believe the 8800GTX will still be able to play this game in all it's glory. As was mentioned, the 8800GTX has not even been used to it's potential yet. It's not going obsolete anytime soon. GOD DAM IT, IT BETTER NOT AFTER ABOUT MORTGAGING MY HOUSE TO BUY THIS THING!

I've learned something from experience.

Anygame that comes out on the xbox 360 first will be full of bugs when it comes out on the pc. And it's almost always inferior in some way.

So, I don't get excited about ports until they're released and reviewed.

No way. Crysis is still the best looking game out there, IMO. Much more "photorealistic."

Agreed, Crysis looks much better to me but, Alan Wake looks alright too. I am a bit skeptical as to what game play will be like in AW though. I hope its not one of those Myst type games.

As for performance on these games and what we'll need to run maxed out....who can even guess. Nvidia's drivers are still :thumbdwn: and we have yet to see so much as an actual working DX10 game demo much less a DX10 game. Who knows what MS will pull out for DX updates that might help optimize....so many variables.....we might very well end up needing a Quad core with 4 gigs of memory and and 2 g120's lol. I remember Far Cry really ate up systems when it first came out, these will probably do the same.

crysis is visually pretty far ahead of alan wake.

Knot3D

^ and that's no surprise because Crysis is purely pc DX10 while AW started development as a console game.

Gameplay will be worlds of difference though. AW is a 3rd person action / adventure game while Crysis is fps.
