Mike is growing screwdrivers in flower pots. The one on the left is coming in nicely, but you need to water the one on the right more..

The main reason is to limit the amount of data in the OS partition. Backup files will be smaller and save and restore operations will run faster.
Programs that I install on their own partition are those that don't need to be backed up and saved along with the OS partition. For example, programs that don't rely on registry entries to work since the registry gets overwritten during an OS restore.
But doesn't this affect performance?

question
During my first install of Vista, I had to manually acquire drivers for the following devices:
Chipset Drivers: nForce 680i SLI
Graphics Card: GeForce 8800 GTX
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
Monitor: Dell 3007 LCD Monitor
Mouse: Logitech MX Laser
Printer: HP Photosmart 1215
i can see dell driver in windows updates

i take it one step further
i have OS and applications on seperate HDDs (not just seperate partions)
this way boot up is faster and applications start faster too.

All applications? Even small ones?
I might give it a try.

oh, also
Not So Good - the system would not "wake-up".
Not So Good - the graphics driver control panel took 20 to 30 seconds to open.
had both of these issues, both were fixed with 101.41, currently using 101.70 even better performance :)
