I have only two major concerns:
SLi support-
How well does it work in Vista? Will I see much of a benefit if I throw my other GTS back in this computer?
Audio:
I'm using the onboard audio on my ASUS A8N32 SLi Dlx. I'm just wondering that if I have it set to output 5.1 anologue signal- will it? Will I get 5.1 anologue surround in my games? Or am I stuck using Dolby Prologic (I've got my computer hooked up to a digital 5.1CH A/V reciever)?
I'll find out later today I guess.
I don't have SLI anymore, I know the support is there for certain configs, you'll find a lot more going through the drivers threads.
Audio - I just have my config set to 5.1 using and audigy4 and it sounds great. That's just mho of course, you may have more discerning ears than I. :p

I couldn't find a working driver for my on-board sound via Vista, that's why I went back to XP. Why use it if you can't get the sound to work? Vista is pretty much XP with a visual makeover in my eyes, but hey, what does that amount to around here huh? :D

Um... actually... I've been a bit preoccupied with Vista to re-install Kubuntu. :o I haven't even installed any games yet, I'm just tweaking and messing around with all the different options. I'm gonna' install Battle For Middle Earth tonight and see how well it games. So far I'm head-over-heels for Vista. :o
But don't worry, I'm still gonna' re-install Kubuntu. I just fear that Vista will probably get the most use.

Just for future reference (in case you try out 7.04):
sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-new <---- Installs the latest NVIDIA drivers
restart
sudo nvidia-settings <------ Brings up the GUI NVIDIA Settings
Once you are in the GUI NVIDIA Settings, set everything to your needs and click on Save Configuration. Once you exit, Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to restart X and voila, you have a custom resolution! Dunno about your 8-series card(s) but it should work. Let us know how it goes!

2d is fine on 8 series, 'nvidia' driver is tougher. Still working on it here.

2d on the desktop works fine, but getting the 3d gfx going...what makes games playable and monsters fun to kill...isn't working. :cool: :p
Whenever I enable the "nvidia" driver in xorg.conf I lose everything, not just x. No console, nothing. The "nv" module works fine though for browsing and such.
Did you do like I said on my last post? Just wondering if you did or not.
Yep, tried both ways, with 2 different kernels and 2 different driversets.

I'll work at it but no fully functional 8800 means buh-bye 7.04.

Thanks buddy. I would really appreciate it. If I can get full functionality out of my 8800 in Kubuntu that would be great. It'd give me more reason to use it. :p Right now I'm just to infactuated with Vista. :p

Download the 9755s from nvidia.com (http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html) and save them to your home directory. You want the 9755s at the top.
Install the packages recommended here (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=72490), most should be anyway, and follow the instructions to disable the NV module. I found this way to be easiest.
Type "sudo nano /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common and edit the DISABLED_MODULES to this "DISABLED_MODULES="nv"
open a terminal and do the following.
sudo apt-get install linux-source-2.6.20
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-2.6.20-15
sudo apt-get install nvidia-new-kernel-source
hit ctrl>alt>f2 to kill kdm (k desktop manager)
log in again
type 'ls' minus quotes, you should see your driver listed.
do "sudo sh *NV*" and follow the prompts.
Or if your a sadist you can type the whole driver name out :D
If it installs with no failures, cross your fingers (<-Very important!) and sudo reboot.
You should be greeted with the nvidia logo before logging in.
Feel free to pm or post if you run into more grief with this Bro. I can't shake the feeling I'm missing something and sorry it took this long to get this posted..my apologies.

Hey man, no problems. I've been rather pre-occupied with Vista to re-install Kubuntu (also, my time has been limited as well). I'm gonna' shoot to re-install Kubuntu tonight. And I'll try to install the drivers just as you listed.

NVIDIA just released some new drivers for Linux that supports the entire 8-series line of cards. I haven't had much time (and luck so far) with manually installing NVIDIA drivers on 7.04. Good luck with your adventures with Kubuntu!
Do the drivers in the repos not support the 8series?

Everytime I updated to a newer service pack xp died on me a month or so later.
