Why do I feel a sudden onrush of forest fires may be on the horizon?
Seriously, it looks like a beast. Now let's see how it performs.
I want some DX10 benches, damnit.

So you'd still feel that way if it was 4x faster than two 8800GTXs in SLi, and 6x faster in DX10?
I wouldn't. :D
But of course, it wont be that fast. :(
It's not like this is a retail sample. They will be significantly smaller (8800GTX size).

I know. That is the "OEM" version. Though I'm still wondering why it needs to be that large. Can't the "OEM" computers just use the retail card? Why do they need this huge one?

The long card helps brace the card to prevent shipping damage. It also allows easier thermal management for the OEM.

actually, yes i would, if that was the case then i would get the cut down verion(you know the one with less"X's") so then i would assume it would fit nicly in my case :D

are you saying now that OEM's have to design there cases around a video card?

No I am sure it is a two way street. More than likely it was Dell who requested this. I remember seeing very similar brace on another Dell OEM video card a while back...

LOL! I was looking for the damn pic (I was going to post it in my previous post) but I am having extreme difficulties in finding it...

I don't think it is if anyone else thinks it is, but something that just comes to mind (I don't think one way or the other on this) is that it could perhaps be a hoax. We remember the pictures of the 8800gtx w/ that tube out the back.
But maybe that wasn't a hoax either.
Now my comments on this, I do think that ATI used some pretty damn good reference cooling (of course AS5 would make a huge diff., but anyways.)
It is very long, perhaps this could be a foretelling of this being ATI's last (or maybe even unreleased) product due to 3dfx's perfect (for the time) (IMO) Voodoo5 5500 and their even longer v5 6000. [when I say "long" i mean for the time, not currently.]]
The GPU itself looks very small compared to the 8800gtx.
I can't tell if the audio chip is integrated in the gpu or separate, or part of the theater chip.
I also can't tell if there's an EMI shield. Maybe they'd be fine w/o one anyway, what the hell do I know.
The length may reduce heat though, I don't know. That could just be a stupid thought of mine. I don't know.

I believe you are referring to the 7900GX2 which was Dell exclusive. They had some funky contraption cooling device which was very much unlike the 7950GX2.
Anyhow, that makes sense, as to why the cards is so huge I guess. A single 8800GTS alone can increase the ambient temperature of the case quite a bit- and since OEM rigs don't have all the fans and such that most cutom built enthusiast rigs do, I can understand the concern about temps.
Anyhow, I'm still waiting for the frackin' benchies!!! Hasn't somebody purchased one yet? :p
Out of curiosity, how the heck do you guys consider that big?
Look at the cooler and the fan bracket, it is the same kind of cooling system/in-case holder utilized by system builders like Dell.
The bare-bones pcb itself is not much different than many of the cards on the market today.
Too long! .. this wont be good for those with small-med cases.
512 Mb of 2.2Ghz ram, on a 512 bit bus
....Hmnnnn....
I take it that is the 2900XT and not the XTX.I figured the XTX will have 1Gb of ram.
You do realise ther is 512MB on the back side also, right?
yep looks to me 8 chips at the front & 8 at the backside.
