I believe with all the bad news postings about AMD and some financial expert at this forum predicting AMD to be no more very soon, there is a need for some good news about AMD.
I know some will say but it's theINQUIRER, but I would like to believe news like this can't be completely fabricated.
OEMs go nuts for DirectX 10 GPUs
theINQUIRER (http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=38836), by Theo Valich: Wednesday 11 April 2007, 08:55
AMD'S R6xx SERIES may be having a troubled birth, but the amount of these babies that are being sold numbers in the millions. This is welcome news for AMD, a company that had to revise financial guidance for this year and announce restructuring.
As yet unlaunched, its DX10 entry-level chip, R(V)610 is already set to become the fastest-selling graphics chip of all time. OEMs just went beserk for these cards, able to bring Vista capabilities and gaming at baseline resolutions for a very affordable price, thanks to 65nm manufacturing process at TSMC.
The biggest buyer is none other than the company from Round Rock, TX. Dell went out and bought all the chips it could get. The company wants to have a DirectX10 push across the board, and needed WHQL drivers for every part of its product line-up. AMD received its R600/610/630 WHQL driver for Vista a long time ago, so it was a non-issue for the "three sticker" program (Every PC brand is enrolled in the three-sticker programme, where up to three stickers are placed on every computer in exchange for money... marketing incentives).
According to pur sources, Dell wanted just about every 65nm GPU that AMD will launch to the world in very early May, following the Tech Day in Tunisia. And it had the readies ready.
R(V)630 is no slouch either, and the integration of Xilleon video processing technology into the GPUs was a golden move for AMD, because a massive amount of consumer electronic companies already use this chip in their LCD/Plasma TVs.
With Xilleon tech inside desktop and notebook parts, expect a lot of crossover devices to feature exactly these graphics chips. It could happen that AMD ships more than 100 million 65nm GPUs by the end of 2007, but this is a very optimistic forecast. µ

Really? I didnt think they used ATI... Every dell Ive seen has either intel intergrated or nv 4/fx series cards. I dont know, mbaye thats not their gaming computers.

They've typically offered both, depending on the product.

?
Don't get what you are implying buddy.
If you look @ the high-end, Dell typically is the first to market with the best gpu's from nvidia AND is providing solutions from both of the big IHV's in all their solutions.
The workstation line is dominated by nvidia products ergo Dell buys plenty of products from nvidia too.
AMD's financials are not very robust because of the fact that they have to invest so heavily in acquisitions recently as well as FAB upgrades.
C'est la vie in the life of technology today.
This is utter BS...
Why you ask ?
If it was true,AMD's marketing and spin dept, would be screaming from the mountain tops about this ! And thier stock would have a nice uptick,if not an outright bullish run for at least a few days after the announcement. They need good news and orders like this like we need oxygen, believe me when I say if this is not reported soon in major news circles its BS.AMD is bleeding money,as is thier stocks value, this is a not a band aid,but a first aid kit.If they had a such a kit they it would openly talked about on the front page of the Wallstreet Journal, and [H]ardOCP...
I hope it becomes so for there sake.

AMD is selling a ton of processor chips through Dell's consumer department. I don't see their marketing and spin dept screaming from the top of the mountain tops regarding that, do you?

Absolutely right!
Same like you already pointed out in the other tread that the soon coming AMDs "Native Quad-Core" Barcelona CPU wont make any different. Actually I noticed you prefer to call it "Baloney or Baloney marchitecture and Intel is going to poo poo all over it."
In other words AMD is done and finished like a baloney dinner.
Actually I hope you'are wrong not only for AMD sake but also for yours and everybody else sake.

Yup, here comes the nay sayers.
That's it, AMD is done for. We might as well make everybody purchase from Intel, after all AMD wont be around long enough to make a purchase from them logical. They're screwed, Intel is the only way...
whatever.

When a desgin win of the size the Inquirer is purporting to have taken place, actually happens, its front page news in the tech world, and the business world.Where is the Wallstreet Journals take on this ? Or,any other well respected net or printed expose/report/story/etc......for that matter ?
If its true, great for AMDati,if not life goes on.But sales of this size do not get swept under the rug,and or only reported by a 'news service' that is well known for outright lies and bs,like the one qouted by the OP.
Like I said before,if its true,GREAT !! But I'll beleive it when its reported by
credible news sources.
Good thing I just bought stock in AMD. :D
good choice.
i had a good feeling that R600 was going to do well. now we play the waiting game.

More bad news from AMD as they have delay R610 & R630 once again due to high OEM demands, meaning it push back to June or possible July or August until TSMC sort out 65nm production problems.
AMD has let Dell down very bad as Dell's order ton of AMD DX10 GPUs come empty hand.

Zomg. It must be true.....
Dispite AMD being late they have an Advantage over nVidia which OEM's will buy and that is WHQL drivers!!! No OEM wants to ship there PC's with beta drivers with half the features disabled.
Thats and they will get incentives from Microsoft for having full WHQL drivers

actaully i was referring as to whether or not the AMD stock would rebound. but yes, weve been waiting quite some time already for the card lol.

That news is so awful that Dell should rip up their lucrative contract with AMD! nVidia and Intel wins! Oh and Sony wins too!

It's funny how some people just wish one side or the other would just tank it and give total freedom of pricing and market share to one side. It will be those same people that will whine, piss and moan because now a cpu that they paid 230 dollars for and o/c the **** out of it now costs 560 dollars and so on. Kinda of like the 9700 and 9800 ATI days all the ATI fanboys were calling out for the demise of Nvidia because of the 5 series. It's funny actually.
