I decided to check out the Duke Nukem Forever forums for the first time tonight. George Broussard seems to really talk the talk when speaking of DNF.
A few quotes from his recent posts regarding the games graphics (that's why I was really looking at the forums because I was thinking the UT engine would be showing its age)...
"We have some impressive technology to boot. Anyone who thinks we look like the 2001 video is going to be surprised."
"In all honesty you're going to want a GF3 level card or better (as good as you can afford). If you go lower, you will lose lots and lots of graphics quality - especially vertex/pixel shader effects. This loss will lessen the visual impact quite a bit. It will work on a GF2, but it's just not going to look as good."
"We don't look anything like the 99 screesnhots anymore and lave lots of pixel and vertex shaders in the game."
"I know we're going to target the 1 Ghz range for "average" play. If you are under, it won't be as good, and if you are in the 2+ Ghz range then things should be nicer.
Don't upgrade your systems We won't know full specs until we're done.
But I can assure you that you will want a GF3 or better video card. That's an absolute certainty."
"The delay has been primarily two things. Struggling with tech (which we're pretty much over the hump) and being very, very ambitious with the game. The level of detail and custom content is pretty high. We'd have been much better off making a game that takes place in a generic space station, than tyring to do Vegas, and surrounding areas, each of which require totally new art and level elements. "
"I think the only game that will have superior graphics will be Doom 3. And that's nothing to be ashamed of."

well, a total revamping of the engine at least explains(again) why the game has been delayed so long. although i have a feeling this game won't see the light of day for a long time, if ever :D

Ok, they finally have caught up with tech... at least they say they have. Now release it!
Why am I thinking of the Bitboyz?

I wonder what it will look like, I mean we haven't really had the same release-schedule with Duke as say Quake has had.

Hehe me to.. for their sake i hope it plays & sells well cause if it doesnt well
Thats assuming it gets released sometime this decade :D
I've pretty much given up on DNF, at least Doom 3 and Unreal 2 have something to show.

LOL they will never release it they updated it to DX8 now to DX9 and later to DX10 .... its never ends one day and only maybe they will gonna put photos in the game and release it Duke Nukem at last lol :D :p
I've just realised why it's called Duke Nukem Forever, because the game will take forever to be released. :p
Maybe when we're playing Doom 50 in a holodeck :D
I remember reading somewhere that the DNF developers felt they needed about 3 months to put the hype machine back up and generate interest in the game before it's release. If that is true, are we beginning to the see the hype for an (*gasp*) actual release of the game? That means we "only" have 3 more months to wait.
Then again, freezing weather is also fast approaching.

Heh, a bit late on this thread, but, it's not as if we don't have the time to talk about this long awaited game, ey? :P I can't believe how god damn lazy 3D Realms has been with this title. No excuses, this game is WAY overdue.
This is what happens when developers take their sweet ass time with their product because they think it's going to be bigger and badder than anything else when it's released. Due to their laziness, new technology is released, in this case, the Unreal engine has become so much more than it used to be, and of course 3D Realms wants all the new features in the bestest game ever, Duke Nukem Forever.
I used to be quite a fan of the Duke Nukem series, and I have lost most of my respect for the franchise directly because of 3D Realms. Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project was an absolute joke and obviously a title designed to tie us over until 3D Realms got their asses into gear with Duke Nukem Forever.
Of course I will still buy the game, most likely grab a pirated copy now, but there's no way I will ever become interested in a 3D Realms product ever again, probably never a Duke Nukem product. It doesn't bother me anymore, the Unreal franchise is grander than anything right now, even Quake has lost it's fire. "Hail to Unreal, baby!" :P

Yes, Hail to Unreal. Doom died long ago, and has only just recently been resurrected. It will surely be an excellent game, although will probably be like every other id software game lately: Excellent technology, Poor game. Unreal has their universe down the right way, and it delivers on all accounts.

Its dead, give it up
*takes out a stick and pokes Duke*

Heh, in a way, I kinda wish the game was dead :P Unfortunately, it's not. But, does anyone remember a game 3D Realms was developing in which your character among other alien beasts are abducted and taken to an arena type setting where you had to fight for your life. At least, this was the basic plot behind the game. It was supposed to have state of the art graphics, but I'll be damned if I can remember what the title was called. Maybe I'll think of it, but I just remember 3D Realms raving about it, and the next thing you know, it's cancelled. No bother..

I always wondered what happend to Prey, I remember the hype in the computer gaming mags, got me salivating, then nothing...

it was dubbed as the Quake Killer :D i guess 3drealms is the master of vaporware. i heard rumors that Prey was being ressurected, any truth to that?

Aha! Prey, that's what it was. I was thinking something along the lines of that; I kept thinking Predator, but knew that wasn't it, close enough though :P Anywho, enough said. 3D Realms could fall hard for all I care. Personally, the thought of Duke Nukem in Las Vegas seems rather a copout to me. What better place for Duke to pulvarize some aliens, as well as get some chicks while he's at it? It could even be real cheesey, one-liners taken far beyond the point ridiculousness..I need to stop now..

actually, stealth, I heard something like that.
but anyone remember crack.com, abuse, and Golgotha (the Uber-Space Game that never got released because the company disbanded)?
--edit--whoops, golgotha isn't a space game, it was a strategy game a la Battlezone... --/edit--
