And another driver, finally new stuff to play with!

http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/158....bit_english.exe (http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/158.18/158.18_forceware_winvista_64bit_english.exe)

EnjoY it again!

New Features

-Adds support for GeForce 8600 GTS, GeForce 8600 GT, and GeForce 8500 GT, GeForce 8400 GS, and GeForce 8300 GS GPUs.
-Increased performance in 3D applications.
-PureVideo™ HD support.
-Add support for forcing Vertical Sync in DirectX applications.
-Updated NVIDIA Control Panel with improved user interface (Please see the Release Notes for more details).
-Numerous game and application compatibility fixes (see below for some of the top issues).

Key Bug Fixes

-Fixed numerous "Display driver has stopped responding" error messages.
-"This is not Vista" error message appears when installing Windows Vista 32‐bit drivers on a Windows Vista 64‐bit operating system. The error message did not indicate which operating system (32‐bit or 64‐bit) is installed. NVIDIA has fixed the installer error message to better tell the end user which version of Windows Vista drivers and operating system are running.
-Warhammer 40k Dawn of War (all versions) has driver error message and does not run.
-The gamma and brightness controls in the NVIDIA Control Panel Adjust Desktop Color Settings page do not function or affect the desktop appearance consistently.
-GeForce 8800 GTX/GTS, Windows Vista Ultimate Edition: Text in the Ultimate Game:Hold'em flashes at the start of the game.
-GeForce 8800 GTX: Elder Scrolls: Oblivion–NVIDIA Control Panel antialiasing does not work when HDR is enabled.
-GeForce 8800 GTX: Half Life 2–fog is broken or misapplied. This fix requires the user to update their Valve Source‐based games to the latest versions of the game engines.
-GeForce 8800 GTX: Splinter Cell Double Agent–there is corruption in the game.
-GeForce 8800 SLI: The system does not resume from S3 mode when SLI mode is enabled.
-GeForce 8600/GeForce 7900 GTX SLI: "Display driver has stopped responding" error message appears when changing the resolution, or when resuming from Standby\Hibernate.
-GeForce 8800 GTX: The Windows Experience Index tool crashes when trying to refresh the system score in Windows Vista 64-bit.
Please view the driver Release Notes for a list of all of the fixed issues in this driver release.

Hm:
DriverVer = 04/12/2007, 7.15.11.5818
DriverVer = 04/12/2007, 7.15.11.6501

Both from 12th of april.
Really wondering whats the one to take now :)
But now I understand how they manager to have such a high versionnumber increase. If in one day the versionnumber is already increased by 7, then its not so difficult :P

• New Version 1.5 of the NVIDIA Control Panel
Highlights:
• The explorer bar on the left-side pane–with Help, Recent Tasks, and
Related Tasks sections–has been replaced by a navigation tree that let’s
you easily locate the page you need for accomplishing tasks.
• Tasks are still organized by groups, but the navigation tree eliminates the
need for the main category pages, reducing the steps needed to get to a
task.
• When you re-open the NVIDIA Control Panel, it remembers the last page
you visited.

Here it installs CP 1.3.7.40? I got error while running it. Very strange. I think I'm going to delete everything with NVIDIA.

According to the release notes, these drivers do not support SLI of any kind for the GeForce 6/7 series. Can anybody confirm this?

Where does it say that?

It doesn't support Quad SLI or "SLI AA" yet but should support SLI

UNLESS YOU HAVE 4 GB OF RAM :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :headexplode:

Beginning to hate these already. I can't change any profile from "use global setting". The other options aren't even there. This is no matter how I have image quality or global set.

I have tried both 165.01 and the 158.18. 158.18 does not have the green video bug, but 165.01 does.

Oblivion still doesnt have aa+hdr

Image sharpening and digital vibrance are still grayed out

scaling options work

What's up with the version number? What happened to 101.xx and everything in between 100.65 and 158.18?

Is it that good that it needs such a big number?

I have those options, try reinstalling, and use driver cleaner

Your thread is better. It follows the naming convention for these threads :)
Maybe the Mods will sticky your thread afterall.

I wonder why SLI works with 4GB of RAM for the 8 series and not the 7 series.

I guess, the XP drivers gonna use the 10x.xx numbering system :)

long time lurker, first time poster...

I can CONFIRM for my setup that stuttering in STALKER (seems to be RAM related) has been fixed with this driver release. With all previous drivers I was getting stuttering which seemed to be RAM/HDD access related. I can confirm this has been completely fixed for me.

When I uninstalled the previous drivers, I went to device manager and uninstalled the 8800gtx display adapter and selected the option to delete all driver files.

Now I am running the game @ 1680x1050, full dynamic lighting and the AA and AF in-game sliders set to max. the frame rate is not butter smooth (there is some noticable slowdown that doesn't effect game play) but I don't get the 0.5 second stutters that I was getting with previous drivers.

obviously I am running vista, 32bit.

have not tried enabling AA in the NV control panel yet.

Stalker looks farking amazing in the indoor areas with FDL. it truly is amazing. please give it a go, it's worth the occasional dip in frame rates. I am currently playing the outer reactor levels FYI.

well this has been my first post and I hope you have enjoyed it. I am going to include an emoticon because that is the Australian way.

Paul

ps. specs to follow.

pps. here are my system specs

AMD64 3800x2 @ 2.6GHZ
Geforce 8800GTX @ stock
2GB RAM (4x 512 MB Corsair @ 2 2 2 5 380mhz
Asus AN8-SLI Premium
2x WD 36GB Raptors in Raid 0 config

ppps just on a side note, I occasionally get a video crash that is normally caused by overclocking. the whole screen goes into a random pattern of pixels. doesn't happen enough to worry me too much. but makes me think maybe these new drivers are upping the clock speeds a bit.

Hdr+aa works for me, I had to give my user full rights to nvapps.xml to get it working though.

4x AA and Transparency Supersampling AA with HDR on the Vista x64 158 driver in "Oblivion" below. Enlarge the link pic to full size or it will look aliased :p

http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/1726/oblv158hdraauv6.jpg

I set it as I do under XP. HDR in game and the NVCP set to "application override" on a global scale.

Again, wtg nVidia. I am happy. Thanks. (nana2)
