Yeah prices are coming down! All the C2D's seem to be on sale everywhere. I think retailers are trying to sell as many as they can before the price cut. Me? I'm waiting for monday when the full price cut happens. Then it's a Q6600 for me!!!

That's nice! Almost to the point of the reported drop that supposed to happen on price cut day. Supposedly, they will be 500usd. We'll see.

Oh good news!
This will give Intel another boost for sure.

Or bad news, depends upon how you view it.

I think it is awesome because now, whenever I do finally have the funds to build a new rig I'll be able to consider getting a semi-decent chip.

But I also view it as bad news cause this isn't helping AMD any. I am more concerned about Intel having sufficient competition than I am seeing Intel sell thier outstanding products for cheap. The latter only has short term gains with the possibility of a major loss (for the consumer) in the long run.

I hope AMD gains some ground with the R6xx series and Barcelona/Agena/AgenaFX. Otherwise we'll all be very unhappy before too much longer. :(

If you really want cheap C2D and aren't looking for an uber OC:

Abit IB9 75usd with rebate-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813127018

E4300 118usd-
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/skusearch.hmx?SCriteria=BA23401

I'd guess 3.0GHz-3.4GHz with the above. X-bit review of E4300-

That's still too spendy for me. I'll wait untill the price cuts later this year- where the Q6600 should be going for about $266. Then, I'll probably bite the bullet. :p

I could instead buy the A64 X2 3600 and OC it to about 3.1GHz for only $65:

Biostar SLi capable mobo for only $89.99

Not to mentioned I'd need to get a new cooler and some new ram as I'm currently using s939.

But, only counting the mobo and cpu that is $155.00 before tax. Still less than what you mentioned and it would OC comparably while allowing for SLi. If I did buy a new rig- I'd probably go for the X2-3600 as it is simply the best for the dollar right now.

It's not an argument. I clearly posted cheap C2D. Most 3600+ are landing between 2.6 and 3.0Ghz. An E4300 does 3.0GHz on stock volts. I'd rather a 3.0-3.4GHz E4300 myself and to each their own.

Intel do have the E2160 and E2140 coming which will be 84usd and under. They will be on a 9x multi like the E4300 so they should do 3.0GHz and beyond.

I'll avoid commenting on SLi with budget boards and with budget video cards.

how well does the Q6600 over clock on air? I really don't want to spend the $$ now to replace my x6800 but if the price is right and I can at least equal my current processer plus add two more cores then I might be in for an upgrade.

Not well. You'd probably get it to 3.0-3.2 before you're looking at some serious temp problems. And that's dependent on how good of a HSF you have.
