I wonder who will do it first ? who will hit the 1 billion mark in transistors on a gpu first ? I say Nvidia will,and by a decent margin over it in fact.AMDati will

Niether will ever achieve a billion transitor chip if the rumors of R700/NV90 are right, they are going to transition to smaller modular chips that can be used in multi-chip set ups.

Doesn't actually mean that one billion transistors will never be reached.
Even if the number drops in the next generations of nvidia and ati it will rise again, possibly until we have created the ultimate computer to answer the ultimate question. (Which would actually tell us the answer is 42 anyway!)

I dont put much,if any stock in a group of smaller chips runing in paralel.I think G90 will top or be very near the 1 billion mark.
