Hello ppl. I am new to Linux. Tried installing RHL 8.0 but as soon as Anaconda initializes, it says 'MOnitor: Unable to probe' right after probing my Onboard GPU and then the system hangs, just hangs and I have to reboot. After several desparate attempts, I finally decided to try 6.2, which remarkably worked although it did give the same msg at the outset of the installation. But then I cannot do a graphical login using 6.2. It says 'connection refused by server' although I beleive I had configured X as good as I could.
My configuration is:-
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
ASUS A7N266VM (onboard GeForce 2 MX and nFOrce)
256 MB DDR
40 GB ATA
Samsung(Samtron)56V(15")
52X CD-ROM

P.S.-The install CDs had come bundled with Sam Publishers 'RHL 8' authoured by Bill Ball

Please somebody help.

You will have to install it in TEXT mode. From what I've read on these forums. It's because RH8.0 doesn't understand the Nforce chipset.

If you use the principle out lined in this post, you should be able to get it going.

I know it mentions RH7.3 but the princple of getting it going will be the same.

I did a text install.
Btw can I add the NV drivers ie the rpm before install by typing 'linux dd'. Well in fact I did it ( I am a retard) and it didnt work. I am really getting tired of resetting my system hoping the next attempt would be successful but all in vain!
:(
Need some help real bad!!!

As I don't have a system with that Chipset (Mine is a AMD MPX chipset). I'm really unable to help. But I just wanted to try and point you in the right direction. I suggest that you search this forum, as I beleive that there was a post regarding the install of RH8.0 on the same type of system. Which may help you. (Can't seem to find it at this moment)
