AMD had decided to sell between $1.8 and $2.2 billion worth of convertible notes from AMD common stock after Standard & Poor's downgraded AMD's credit rating to "B". It mean AMD is now a junk company that the public should not investing in AMD stock, same thing happened to Commodore's credit rating downgraded to "B" back in 1993 that saw the $7 stock crashed to $2.

If AMD can sell it off then AMD stock will go down to about $9 or less and AMD could be subject to be takeover target by private equity firms to become a private company.

yea but you see, AMD has something Commodore didnt have. a still loyal/knowledgeable fanbase as well as two new kickass products being launched this year.

AMD will not go the way of Commodore. comparing the two as if they are apples and apples is ridiculous and foolish. :|

....Breaking news... AMD declares bankruptcy.

... In other news today, Intel has announced it will increase the prices of all its processors by 100% beginning tomorrow.

I dont think you getting the full picture.

Prior to 1993, Commodore had strong userbase of 6 million Amiga users worldwide, it was very large than Apple Mac userbase size.

Commodore problem started in 1992 when they made mistakes made too many 16bit Amigas with similar specs and then late 1992 Commodore announced long delayed next generation 32bit Amiga A1200 and A4000 1 year late. This caused collapse of 16bit Amiga sales due to no demands, the 32bit Amigas demand was very high but Commodore cannot produced enough 32bit Amigas due to excess inventory of 16bit Amigas no one wanted to buy, they just wanted the latest one. Commodore had $107m cash and lost $356.5m in June 1993 then $9.7m loss in September, $107m loss end of December and they ran out of cash in end of March 1994 with a loss of $8.2m. With $107m cash lasted Commodore 9 months with total of $481.4m losses and $350m in debts.

Accorded to former Commodore engineers, they wished Commodore US management never made series of miscalculated and mistakes. If they did put things right, they would started R&D on 32bit Amiga in 1989 then it would been launched in 1991 then we would had more powerful RISC based Amigas in 1993 and Commodore would not made useless A600 and made profits through 1992, 1993, 1994 and survived today.

AMD problem started in 2006 when they launched AM2 and underestimated the power of Core 2 Duo. They didnt realised how successful they were and AMD made too many old 90nm S939 & AM2 CPUs, when they moved to 65nm AM2 and there was big demand on 65nm AM2 CPUs. This caused excess inventory of 90nm CPUs, AMD still struggling to clear it today that supposed cleared all of it before end of 2006. It because of price wars from Intel. AMD marketshare is fall to less than 20% in Q1 2007 (http://money.cnn.com/2007/04/24/technology/bc.intel.amd.reut/index.htm), it not known how AMD will manage with $1bn in cash to produce enough CPUs and GPUs to regain marketshare this year plus pay off $3.6bn debts repayments and upgrading & repairing 2 fabs after lost $1.1bn in 2 quarters and now in negative equity.

To avoided mistakes and miscalculated, AMD should launched K10 in 2006 to outperformed Core 2 Duo and repeat the same success they did with Athlon 64 and Pentium 4 a few years ago, by now they would had 35% marketshare and when AMD stock reached $45 in Jan/Feb 2006, they would bought ATI for $3.8bn in stocks without get additional $5.4bn loan.

If AMD can get $1.8bn or takeover by a private equity before the end of 2007, things will get normal while they invest heavy and write off $3.6bn debts. If it hadnt then AMD will running out of cash by end of 2007 and declare bankruptcy when it unable to keep up with $3.6bn debt repayments.

Wow. I'm surprised to hear you say such a comment. You always bad mouth everything to come from AMD- untill now. Why the change in heart? :p

He is probably just getting sick of all the stupidity demonstrated in these "rumors" threads about AMD. Its funny because before the C2D they all said the same thing about Intel, they just bandwagoners.

You're a bandwagoner. The fact that you prefer AMD when they provide the inferior product at the same price tells me so.

Okay, what does Intel currently have to compete against the X2 3600? As of right now- nothing. Thier lowest end CPU currently is the E4300- and that costs nearly twice as much as the X2 3600. And Intel won't have anything to compete with the 3600 (in terms of price/performance) untill the E2160.

Also, allow me to point out that in no way is a12ctic a bandwagoner. He's a fanboy - someone who sticks with a company no matter what they do. A bandwagoner jumps to whichever company is currently in the lead.

Somebody obviously doesn't understand what the term bandwagoner refers too...

Considering it isn't even a word in the English language... that's up for debate.
