I have an odd problem nobody else seems to have: My Geforce 7950GT won't install properly - it only runs under "Framebuffer Graphics" so that I don't have 3D functionality.

My system:
SuSE 10.1 (didn't work on 10.2, Ubuntu 6 or Knoppix).
GeForce 7950 GT (PCIe)
Gigabyte M55plus-S3G

I installed the driver according to nvidias Website und started sax, but only got a black monitor. The system, however, seems to run normally, because when I hit RETURN twice I got back to the console.

Entering sax2 -p lists:

Chip:0 -> VESA Framebuffer Graphics 02:00:0 0x10de 0x0295 AGP fbdev.

If you want any logs, please state so (and have a little patience as I am currently running under Windows and have to reboot to access the log files).

sure the installation ended without any error?

if yes, check your /etc/X11/xorg.conf for Driver "nvidia" in the "Device" Section

if it doesn't exist, manually replace the current driver (probably "vesa" in your case) with "nvidia"

sax2 sometimes (often :p) has problems loading the nvidia module

PS.:
btw, you should post questions regarding linux in the nvidia linux forum

A 7950GT is not a Legacy card...
