View Full Version : So I get an Elite and...
I get the three rings of death on my first power-up!! It turned out to be error code 0102 (unknown) as referenced at avsforum. The unit worked fine though and went through setup and several games (with the flashing red lights). Once I finally rebooted the thing I haven't had the thing error out on me again. I suppose I'll be getting the extended warranty for this, too!
I got the unit at a local K-Mart. They only had one in stock and it was rather hidden in the back of a bottom shelf in a glass case.

Ya, that is NOT a black unit, the remote controller on the bottom shelf is black.
Thats a sorry ass excuse for a console color of black if you ask me, but good job on the find regardless :)

So what is the MCRP pricing on these again? Wow cool, it comes included with HDMI and Component cables wasn't aware of that...
I wonder if they are going to begin selling 'elite' HD-DVD add-on in 'black' colors as well :p

I have to agree that it looks nothing like the they have shown it (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/xbox360elite/default.htm) to be but it's still way nicer than the white imho. Grats on the sweet 360:)
I picked up the GoW edition 360 just yesterday expecting something different over the regular version but I was wrong. The Halo edition Xbox(1) I have is worthy of a "special edition" stamp as it is a kickass clear green case but this one was disappointing.

wow totally forgot it came out today. by the way your tv's power button looks just like the 360 power button.
In the console's defense, it actually looks much "blacker" without a flash from a camera. It's more of a matte black that has a silky sheen to it. The power button seems to be a more "black" than the rest of the console.
Honestly, I like the color! But, it does look kind of awkward with the vanilla HD-DVD drive as cream/gray...
I got the system on Monday, actually, after a standard errand run at K-Mart, and though I would go see if they had any goodies :)
As a sidenote, the controller seems a bit different, but that may be because I'm used to a year-old controller.

Yeah, it's pretty similar! Actually, I'm really glad that I've been able to get must of my A/V stuff in a similar color (black/silver)

Correct, I don't think the GPU/CPU are 65nm. The fans and DVD drive, on the other hand, are much more quiet than my launch units!

Acording to Daily Tech some modifications were made around the PCB to make it cooler although the 65nm has not taken place yet.

Anyway Gray... Black... Green... whatever I want one. I have been dying to use my HDMI port on my 37inch LCD.:D
I really do not know why anyone would buy into the Elite thing until they switch to a .65nm at least so it is not just the same guts that give people nightmares of red rings.

Someone really feels some kind of crankiness toward the PS3 considering that I never mentioned it for a moment..perhaps it is that hd-dvd thing?

I realise this might be a big ask, but if you still have your launch units and some simple recording stuff (any mic will do), you couldn't do a volume comparison could you? I intend to finally "jump in" in the next couple of months, but the single biggest thing that worries me about a 360 is noise. I hate loud electronics with a passion.

The #1 cause of noise on the X360 is the DVD drive, not the chips. Honestly I could handle if it was just the fans, but the DVD drive is like a monster. There are a few different types of DVD drives out, some quieter than others (guess who didn't get the quiet one! Me!) but every report I've read don't make even the quiet one "quiet" by any means. You might have people who tell you it's not too bad, but if you already have a hatred for electronic noise, it's definatly ganna classify as loud for you
Idle, arcade, or demos, and the X360 is quieter than most computers. But with a disk in... man oh man
On a different note, the X360 elite REALLY goes overboard with glue to make those chips stick down. It sounds to me like they didn't do much to correct the cause of the problems causing most of the red rings, but simply tried some counter measures. Dissapointing. I was going to trade in my Premium for an Elite cause I'm scared my launch console will die anyday... but now... eh

Yeah - I rented a 360 a couple months back to play Gears of War, and the DVD drive was ridiculous. I'd mainly like to know how much quieter recent units are than that one (which, I'd wager, was a launch unit).

anyone tried to trade in xbox360 for elite at bestbuy or anywhere? i mean, i got 2 years plan with bestbuy, do you think i could do that and pay a bit since elite's going to be more than preminum.
Man that thing is ugly! :D I'd much rather just buy a premium system and paint it black myself, than pay for a piece of charcoal! White xbox360 FTW!
